5am friday morning thursday night far from sleep
I'm still up and driving can't go home obviously
So I'll just change direction cause they'll soon know where I live
And I wanna live
Got a full tank and some chips

It was me and a gun and a man on my back
And I sang "holy holy" as he buttoned down his pants

You can laugh
Its kind of funny
Things you think
Times like these
Like I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this

Yes I wore a slinky red thing
Does that mean I should spread for you, your friends
Your father, Mr Ed

It was me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this

And I know what this means
Me and Jesus a few years back used to hang
And he said "it's your choice babe just remember
I don't hink you'll be back in 3 days time so you choose well"
Tell me whats right
Is it my right to be on my stomach of Fred's Seville

It was me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this

and do you know CAROLINA
Where the biscuits are soft and sweet
These things go through your head when there's a man on your back
And you're pushed flat on your stomach it's not a classic caddilac

It was me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this
I haven't seen BARBADOS so I must get out of this

General Comment:Why is it that more than one person can't spell the word THROUGH? "THREW". Back to English class.

General Comment:This song means so much to me as I can personally relate to it. I too was raped and I find that this song feels so personal to me as it does to anyone who has experienced this horrible crime. She is VERY brave and obviously a very strong woman to be able to share something this personal with the world.

My Opinion:I can't bear to listen to this song. I avoid films depicting rape or other forms of torture too (Hostel, Captivity etc). I am not saying they should be censured, I just can't understand why 'torture porn' is so popular. Is it entertaining to see somebody get raped/tortured? Personally I don't think so, it makes me feel sick. And films are just fiction, but what happened to Tori is a fact, which makes it much, much worse. I have never met Tori but to some extent I feel like I "know" her through her music, so listening to this song is sort of like hearing a friend telling me that she has been raped. The song is emotionally so very powerful, it hurts me just to listen to it. I can't imagine what it feels like to Tori when she is performing it.

General Comment:The song is frigging artwork --any song worth listening to is.

But I guess that's what happens when you're used to watching all that T and A on mTV. You forget what real music is and somehow find something as unique and poignant as this "boring".

General Comment:i still prefer silent all these years to this song.. but its still amazing how raw she can be with her emotions.

its true, rape cases in trial are amazingly tough and often further traumatise victims. the onus to establish rape is extremely high and unfortunately "bias" thinking seeps in such as the slutty clothes she was wearing, or her initial flirting.

being a victim myself, and a law student, its painful to see how unfair it is sometimes. although in many cases it may seem morally wrong and morally may be equivalent to rape, in legal terms it is often not. however, i guess we dont want innocent people to end up in jail because of a viscious accusation as well.

General Comment:The fact that this song has no instrumentals is very important. I think it's perfect the way it is.
It sounds candid, raw, like a confession or recollection of events.
It feels cold and lonely like the way you feel after you've been raped.

It's ok if this song makes people uncomfortable, but if it bores you then you are missing the point.

I'm glad she wrote this, it means a lot to me (it really helped me in the past), and I wish I could thank her personally.

    General Comment:The line:
"But I haven't seen Barbados, so i must get out of this".
really strikes me the hardest. Just keeping it together as much as possible, willing yourself to get through it, no matter what because you know theres so much to live for. It's such an amazing yet simple line.
    And I also love:
    "and i wanna live"
Once again really simple but really powerful.

General Comment:Aww now *I* want to say 'big ups' to all of you :P
I'm glad you were able to escape that incident Prisoner.I.Was, but it must've been very tough even though you managed to fight him off.

People who honestly say this song sucks are either just immature idiots or emotionless shells of a human being. You make my blood boil.

Anyway, I first heard this song on a video called 'The Righteous Babes' (directed by Pratibha Parmar, very recommended!). They played this song while showing shots of neon lights of strip bars and it was quite chilling. Tori said in an interview that she now prefers not to perform this song at all her concerts, because of the emotional drain it causes her, as well having to put herself in that kind of mood to sing it.
