Shiver for me girl
Deliver for me my darling
Pushin' up to you
A river that runs right thru you
Swim for your smile
In a blue rock quarry
Make it for me baby
You won't be sorry
Shiver for my now
Deliver for me my darling

Chorus:
Miles and miles of nether worlds I roam
Settle for love you're never far from home
Carry me down into the waters of
Carry me down into the waters of love
Two of us were made of angels dust
I've been around
But not around enough

Shadow my free form
A woman that I could keep warm
Quiver for me girl
Give me your head and shoulders
Shot from the pages of love and glory
Sleeping next to you and I'm in your story
Shadow my free form
A woman that I could keep warm

(Chorus)

Let's go
I know, I make it for two
Intuitions only what you take from it
I know, I make it for two
You were there and I was fortunate
I know, I make it for two

Shiver for me now
Deliver for me my darling
A living that I could
Be giving to you my sweet love
Swim for your smile
In a blue rock quarry
Make it for me baby
You won't be sorry
Shot from the pages of
Love and glory
Sleeping next to you
And I'm in your dream

Settle for love

My Opinion:By the Way is their greatest album to date! Lyric-wise is phenomenal and the depth of these songs musically is over the top. The song are played with such passion that I haven't been able to find on another rhcp album. I know a lot would argue that Stadium Arcadium is the best one, but I beg to differ. Yes Stadium Arcadium is obviously a masterpiece but it has something missing which is the great lyrics that were featured on By the Way. Now, I'm With You, I believe that is grand on the scale that is so much bigger than anything they ever done. Musically, the album takes you over a wide range of different musical stylings and the way it is composed and arranged would make anyone's heart melt. But call me old fashion, (not really, I'm only 18), By the Way is still one of the greatest piece of music I ever heard.

Song Meaning:"I've been around, but not around enough" --speaking of when you're in love with someone, you both cannot believe that you have never met each other before. all the time before the moment the two of you fell in love, you cannot believe you didn't know each other before. almost a sense of amazement that you have found someone to show you the meaning of life.

Song Meaning:Ok, about the title: listen to John Frusciante's Warm Tape commentary on you tube; he confirms the title is about the fact this song was done on a synthesizer. Some research later,I realized he was referring to analogue warmth, a technical term meaning this song was not digitally recorded. So the title does not affect the lyrics in any way.

Now if I could just figure out what the heck the line missing from the CD jacket says...

General Comment:Alright are you people retarded? This song is ridiculously good. Is it "tame" in the way people are saying it is? I suppose, BUT the haunting melody more than compensates. AND lyrically it's euphoric. The way he says "Shiver for me" makes me feel kind of like I'm tripping. The song does seem like a lucid daydream about some he loves. Not to mention the thing that makes band like the Chili Peppers, Modest Mouse, The Beatles....is their ability to be so artistic and make uncommonly good music of such a wide variety.

General Comment:This song is beautiful. There's something so hypnotizing and addicting about the chorus... I think it's a story of love, but of love that can't completely be defined. There's a bitter-sweet sort of tone to the chorus, with the idea of two people, delicate and made of angel's dust, trying so hard to have a good relationship, but in the end there's that one thing keeping them from truly working: "I've been around but not around enough." I also love the lines about sleep in this song: "Sleeping next to you and I'm in your story" and "Sleeping next to you and I'm in your dreams." It makes me think about how sleep is such an intimate thing, and how close you feel to someone when you fall asleep next to them. If he's a part of her story, he's a part of her that can't easily be cut out. And you have to truly be close to someone to know that you're in their dreams. In a lot of ways, that's what love is. To me anyway.

General Comment:This is one of my favorite RHCP songs of all time. It is SO spiritual; Anthony's lyrics are absolutely the best in this. Listening to this song, I think there are lot of ways you can explain it, and only AK knows the true meaning behind it. But listening and reading it, I have a different perspective. I think he is singing it from the point of view of someone that has died, and is like a spirit around his love. "Miles and miles of netherworlds I roam"......"I've been around, but not around enough"......he has been around spiritually, sleeping in her bed and being in her dreams, but not around enough because he is not there in the flesh. I have gone through this verse by verse, and I can really see it. And then you think of it as a precursor to the next song, "Venice Queen" and that seals the deal for it. Really, go through the lyrics with that frame of mind and see what you think. These 2 songs (this and Venice Queen) back-to-back or something else. A true work of art; genius, really

General Comment:seems like its a girl from an early relationship. They have a sort of chivalrous teenage relationship.
    shiver for me
    deliver yourself to me
    quiver for me
give me your head and shoulders
A woman that I could keep warm

Settle for love your never far from home
He's saying he's in love but he could fall in love with more girls
and she's his first or one of his first loves but he hasn't been around the block enough times yet. (I've been around but not around enough)
he wants to be with more women before he settles down
And i think the line thats not written in the lyrics are
    messy bed a part of cheating {i won't fall for you?}
which i think means he starts cheating on her.

General Comment:there's a line thats missing from the lyrics (not even in the inner sleeve of the album). I think he must've made it up in the studio on the spot, as often he does.

    It sounds like :

''i know i'll make it for two
masturbate, apollo cheated: i will fall for you''

i dont think it's ridiculous to assume that this song is about masturbation. afterall there are loads of good songs about jackin off. it's an idea that came alot into Frusciantes work while they were writing Blood Sugar and not only does it represent positivity and creativity but a sexual desire to explore a person. It's really not as crude as it first seems. Along with lines like ''i'lll make it for two'' and ''shiver for me'' and the surreal trance-like atmosphere it seems likely that it could be about the metaphysical side of sex and desire etc.

i think its an insult to say By The Way is underrated because it sort of suggests that this album could be seen as anything but genius.

    have peace and prosperity.
may your children be eternally blessed.
