I read an interview by RHCP, and this is what Anthony said about the song:
"It's my idea of what God is about, what life is. It puts us in such a good mood, I think we'll open our shows with it for the next three years."

lots of it seems to be reffering to Anthony Kiedis's old drug problems, like "the bloodstain on your shirtsleeve" and "rainbow in your jail cell"

some of this song sounds like its about drugs but then some of it sounds like it could be a love song. i don't really know what it's about but i don't really care cuz it kicks ass no matter what it's about. that's the beauty of the red hot chili peppers, most of their songs make absolutely no sense but they are great anyway.

I think this song is basically memories from a young woman, anthony's lyrics are symbolism for something else..anyway, I think the girl was in a lot of pain, and started doing drugs to see thing sin a different way, just to be happy. More Will Be Revealed My Friend..I think that the girl thinks she's seen some bad things, but if she stays on drugs, she will see more..now that I think about it, maybe this is a song from a drug's perspective?? Anyway, RHCP are great and they all bring something to this song musically :)

I agree with silsae, I think most of it is written from the perspective of heorine addiction. But like most good songs, it's capable of being more personal than that of what Anthony orriginally ment. Either way, it's a great high emotion song, I think it saved my about a year ago.

Good song, and like Joshua Can Funk said, most good songs can be put into different meanings for a more personal view. I find a lot of the Chili peppers stuff to be like that.

this song makes me sad, i'm not even sure why, but it just does. its a beautiful song and anthony's voice is so gorgous. it's definatly my fave on that album.
