Tonight I feel ambitious and so does my foot
as it sinks on the pedal
I press it to the floor
I don't need a girl, don't need a friend
Cause my friend Lonesome's unconditional
We're flying forever bored
And for a moment I love everything that I see and think and feel
I love my broken side view mirror
Cause it's so perfect I'm so perfect you're so perfect you're not here
I hear the change in gears

{Chorus}
My pile shakes as I hit eighty on the open road
This is an open road song

The night is beckoning
Although I have nowhere to go but home
Feels good to be alone
With every turn comes a new frame of mind
If I could frame my mind
Where would it hang?

{Chorus}

I crack a window and feel the cool air cleanse my every pore
As I pour my poor heart out
To a radio song that's patient and willing to listen
My volume drowns it out
Yeah, but that's O.K. cause I sound better than him anyway, any day
Yeah, my voice is as sweet as salt
I search for comfort and I find it where I've found it many times before
Times before can be forgotten

{Chorus}

    General Comment:I get one absolute feeling from this song. Sometimes you are all you have, so you have to love being alone, you have to not need anyone, and be happy about it

    "My friend lonesome's unconditional we're flying forever bored" <----- RIGHT THERE!

    This song is not about driving at all. It's a metaphor about a lifestyle. Came upon it differently, but I live this lifestyle.

    ^I agree with this interpretation wholeheartedly, well done indeed. Anyone who thinks this song has anything at all to do with operating a motor vehicle in any capacity is completely missing the point.

    I think it is also important to note that the use of "Eighty" is more than likely a reference to "Ada Wong" from the popular Resident Evil video game series. We know that both the song and the video game came out at relatively the same time, and if you say "Eighty" slow it kind of sounds like you might say "Ada Wong" instead. Lead singer Max Collins knew this, and used it as the basis of this song and quite possibly the basis for the entire album.

    General Comment:This song is great to re-energize a night out. This track came up on the CD as my friend was driving me home, we looked at each other and turned toward the highway, floored it, and went back into the city. We never did make it home that night...

    General Comment:This song is just amazing! I have always loved it but after reading it the meaning is crystal clear in my mind. The beginning of this album (at least a song or two) is arguably about breaking up (many see it that way, this song helps me agree with that).
    [I don't need a girl don't need a friend cause my friend lonesomes unconditional]
    [Cause it's so perfect I'm so perfect you're so perfect you're not here]

    After feeling down and depressed about the break out he just goes for a cruise. The drive helps him to clear his mind. Everything is perfect no matter how crappy his car is. He loves everything. The drive is revitalizing. I couldn't get rid of a line in this song! Its pefect!
    [I search for comfort and I find it where I've found it many times before] - He is searching for comfort where he has found it before. So he has found comfort in driving before or going to a place....either way [Times before can be forgotten]- Time before is the time with his ex. Make sense?

    My pile shakes? Is that what I think it is?"
    Probably not what you think...
    Pile as in pos car he driving in.

    This is just a kickass song all around, but like the song insists, it's best on the open road. This is traveling music.

    General Comment:quixoticdisaster, I'm with you. The first time I heard that line I stopped the CD and pulled out the CD booklet just to make sure that I heard what I'd heard.

    General Comment:Cityondown78, he's talking about his car. If you've ever driven an old car, the faster you go the harder it shakes.

    General Comment:I think that this song is about how he feels after breaking up with a girl. He's getting out his frustration through driving, but slamming on the accelerator, screaming along with the radio and letting the night air cool his face. This song describes exactly how I feel when I get pissed off and go for a drive to let off some steam.
