Why, I wonder, is my heart full of holes
And the feeling goes but my hair keeps growing
Will I set the sun
On a big-wheeled wagon
I'm bragging
I'm always in love

When I let go of your throat-sweet throttle
When I clean the lash of your black-belt model
Will I catch the moon
Like a bird in a cage
It's for you I swoon
I'm always in love

I don't get the connection
If this is only a test
I hope I do my best
You know I won't forget

When I fold the cold in my jet-lag palm
When I soak so long I forget my mother
Will I set the sun
On a big-wheeled wagon
I'm bragging
I'm always in love

It's a drag I sang
I'm always in love
I'm worried
I'm always in love

I'm worried
I'm worried
I'm worried
I'm always in love

General Comment:Actually there was meaningful interaction but I am writing that for the forlorn guy I gave the website to who will read this who will get pissed off that I referred to him as a possible homo. . .I LOVE U MIKE! "I'M WORRIED. . .I"M ALWAYS IN LOVE!"

General Comment:Ughh. . .after a weekend of debauchery & no meaningful intimacy I am starting to think Tweedy is celebrating his romance with things other than human beings which he sounds self-deprecatory about.

We sometimes celebrate romances with chemicals/ visceral thrills as living life but sometimes that is bullshit. . .that is the way I read it. . .Jesus this guy depressed me when I first saw Wilco b4 I had ever listened to them & the melody apart from the lyrics fascinated me (great hooks! . . . .also great self-effacing digressions on stage in front of 300,000 of the best friends u could have ever met except for the a**holes I met who wouldn't let me take > 2 drags off their green). . .

General Comment:I need to read these interpretations more deliberately but did anyone note the blatant New Order "Love Vigilantes" riff at the end? Neat!

Also there is no need to distinguish necessarily Greek & Roman figures/ deities (I think u meant Apollo BTW) b/c the Romans took over the culture from the Greeks so the term "Greco-Roman" encompasses that total mythology although the terms switch from Greek to Latin (ex Odysseus becomes Ulysses. . .Zeus becomes Jupiter. . .etc).

    General Comment:I'm positive it's either "it's a drag I snag" or, the one I prefer, "it's a drag I've snagged."

General Comment:I believe that this song is about touring on the road and leaving his wife behind. "I set the sun on a big wheeled wagon"(bus) Also the longer the tour, the longer the hair. When he folds the cold in his jet lagged palms and has soacked so long he forgets his mother to me means that he has abused his body with to much drugs, booze, sleep deprivation or all the above that he is in that complete fog state. Maybe I am wrong, but I believe the whole album is about a tour where he goes to far and has problems with his wife. The album sounds very personal and autobiographical to me.

General Comment:It's definitely "It's a drag I snag" in the cd booklet. Anyway, great song. I'm starting to like Summerteeth almost as much as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot...but not quite.

General Comment:beanicka, I believe you're right about the lyrics, though "drag I snag" is a stretch to think he snagged a drag of pot or something.

However...the band is definitely singing "Smoke pot, smoke pot" repeatedly in falsetto in the middle of the song. It's garbled on "Summerteeth", but it's very clear at the live shows they've been doing recently. Download one and take a listen :) Maybe it's just homage to the Beatles' White album period?
