Loving you
Isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel

If I could
Maybe I'd give you my world
How can I
When you won't take it from me

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up is all you want to do

If I could
Baby I'd give you my world
Open up
Everything's waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day

You can go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way

My Opinion:There are two ways I enjoy it.

One, it's a very rhythmic rock and roll tune with pristine percussions and guitar. For melody and tune, it's one of the best. There's the classic guitar lick that's so sorely missing in later mishmashing of banalities called rock.

Two, this is an angry song! If I'm in a breakup with a former lover, dang, this song says it perfectly. You can go your own way!

Combine the two, and it's singing-songwriting genius. Bravo Lindsey & Stevie for sustaining your romantic tensions! LOL

General Comment:Not a huge fan of the band's, but I've always liked this track. "Go Your Own Way" is a simplistic line and sentiment, but sometimes it just hits the spot.

Song Meaning:Actually, most of you are right. It is about Lindsey and Stevie. Lindsey wrote most of his songs about Stevie. The dude was head over heels in love with her, I don't know if the same could be said about Stevie, but Lindsey wasn't exactly the most perfect boyfriend. They had a pretty bad past together. You guys might know about all the drug usage, abuse, etc.

Lindsey used to do crazy stuff like sleep with his guitar. But needless to say, Stevie got tired of his antics and left him.

Here is my interpretation of his lyrics:

    Loving you
Isn't the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
    That I feel
(Lindsey thinks that loving Stevie was a bad thing, mixing personal and business, but he fell head over heels for her.)

    If I could
Maybe I'd give you my world
    How can I
When you won't take it from me
(Realizing it's too late, he would have gave her his "world", meaning everything he had in him. But she's already made up her decision and is adamant to staying broken up)

You can go your own way
    Go your own way
    You an call it
    Another lonely day
You can go your own way
    Go your own way
(They obviously had broken up in the past, hence "you can call it another lonely day", but this time she means it and the chorus, which has a much more higher tone to it expresses his desire to stay in the relationship and hope it comes clear to Stevie)

    Tell me why
    Everything turned around
    Packing up
Shacking up is all you wanna do
(At that time, Stevie was done with the coke, but Lindsey was still on drugs and Stevie wanted stability. Lindsey could not give her that)

    If I could
Baby I'd give you my world
    Open up
    Everything's waiting for you
(Again, he keeps repeating that line. Kind of like a guy being dumped. You get hurt, you repeat the same thing like "Baby, please come back")

You can go your own way
    Go your own way
    You an call it
    Another lonely day
You can go your own way
    go your own way

(No, Stevie made up her mind and so has Lindsey)

My Interpretation:It's obvious that Stevie (who has ZERO talent) used Lindsey to get a career. The other members of Fleetwood Mac resented her, but she was a charmer and won them over and slept with all the men to solidify her position. Christine McVie is the real female star, but she just has talent and a great voice and doesn't self promote, so she played 2nd fiddle to the self-proclaimed beauty queen. Stevie road Lindsey like a horse to the feeding trough and then continued to manipulate him. In this case, it's girl wants sex/party/fame and the guy wanted love/marriage but was denied. Buckingham sings a heart-felt song. Stevie sings nothing with passion. A souless zombie that has charm is all that she is.... and that has to be admitted because plenty of men close to her were smitten and she's is NOT any better than average looking despite what she says and how the media spins it.

General Comment:I love this song. Agree with most of what is said. I love the drums and feel there is some meaning in them. Especially toward the end during the guitar rift. It's almost like they are being hit harder from frustration of the situation.

General Comment:btw, has anyone heard that awful version that Wilson Phillips sing? Very wafty and pointless with no passion or pain. When Lindsey sings it you can hear the passion and hurt in his voice.

General Comment:Yes, Lindsey did write this for Stevie about their break-up. The band lived together for months in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere to record the Rumours album so most of the songs are personal and reflective of what was happening in each of their lives. The name of the album is a bit of a giveaway don't you think?
