Every town has a diner
Where I'll meet you
And your friends, too
Things are just a bit nicer over some coffee
You can tell me all about your day
I don't know much about you
Not that I want to
Not that I want to
Sometimes I can't escape from my room
So excuse me
I'll be just a little late

You will wait for me
You will wait for me

Every town has a corner
Where I'll see you
And your friends, too
Hang out, looking cool
Saying the same things
Over and over again
Sometimes we all feel stupid
We say the wrong things
You're not the only one
Sometimes we all get left behind
In a race of style
It's a dumb thing

You will wait for me
You will wait for me
You will wait for me
You will wait for me

General Comment:I think that it's about being in love, and not really getting anything right. However, the songwriter acknowledges that their significant other will have patience, and overlook the flaws glaring them in the face. That's what I get out of this song.

Song Meaning:Old song - but a great one. Props to the Secret Stars - didn't know it was a cover, but it's great writing.

It became obvious to me exactly what it was about very recently, as I've just realized I'm in the same situation, and then (like it tends to) the right song came on at the right moment and it clicked. It's about an unbalanced relationship. You know, one person's really into it, and the other is just in it for almost no reason, and they're just starting to wake up to it.

"I don't know much about you / Not that I want to" gives it away - and "Sometimes I can't escape from my room / So excuse me I'll be just a little late" - He doesn't care enough about her to even care about leaving whatever routine stuff is in his room to be on time. It's pretty telling.

But "you will wait for me." She's going to wait, even though he won't. She cares, he doesn't.

There's a little more depth to it as well - I think it goes into the reasons he's not that into it. They're just sitting around a diner or a corner that could be in any town, every town. Routine. Boring. All they do is sit around "Saying the same things / Over and over again" - no depth, nothing interesting. She could be anyone, her friends could be any friends.

I think "Sometimes we all feel stupid / We say the wrong things / You're not the only one" is almost *condescending* toward the trivial stupid things these people are focusing on. It's like he's saying, Hey, wake up, this stuff doesn't matter! You're not special! And "It's a dumb thing" - dumb to worry about, dumb to be concerned with. This is a guy with a different, maybe more grown-up, level of interests and concerns, and he's in the wrong crowd, with the wrong girl, and he knows it.

But "you will wait for me" - and that's what keeps him coming back. It's a weird situation, but it makes sense once you've been on that side of it, and the song is just on the money. Brilliant, and great to listen to as well.

General Comment:I'm such a spaz. I didn't even know this was a cover lol. But more than one song off 'You Can Play These Songs With Chords' are covers. 'This Charming Man' is the only other one I can name off the top of my head, though.

I absolutely this song though. It reminds me of something that should have been on Gilmore Girls. I don't know why. Possibly because of the Diner reference, but thats all I've got...

General Comment:Even though it's a cover, Death Cab's version is probably my favorite song right now mainly just because of the entire second verse beginning with "Every town has a corner.." Because for some reason it reminds me of high school, and the diversity of all the naive, immature kids that think they've already got it all figured out. High school is where I am now and I love to observe all these different styles and all the separate cliques who will never fully accept eachother. I know that later in life, I'll remember these times and I'll shake my head and laugh. I already feel that way now. So, I don't know what "Wait" means, but if I'm wrong I still love to use it my own way. I think I interpret Death Cab songs a little stronger than others because this band is one of the highest influences on my style.

General Comment:i think the tone of this song is amazing. the way he balances the "you will wait for me" between being commanding and pleading is brilliant.

General Comment:This song has alot of meaning to it and Actually i can relate to this song.
I Like this boy, but im terribly shy. Whenever he see each other (Coffee Shops+Corners) we have our friends with us (And your friends too) It;s hard to talk to someone farther than "How was your day?" When friends are with you So i don't know much about him ( don't know much about you, not that I want to. Not that I want to.) It's been aong time of this system that i get so sick of it i just stay in my room and hope theshyness goes away (Sometimes I can't escape from my room, so excuse me--I'll be just a little late)

Hang out looking cool. Saying the same things over and over again.
Sometimes we all feel stupid, we say the wrong things. You're not the only one.
These lyrics remind me of how teenagers are. It;s funny- me and my crush talked and he told me that he never talked to me becuase he thought that he would say something terribly wrong. I said "Youre not the only one" Then i laughed. That was part of the song.
But yeah i think that or either a guy likes his best friend that is a girl and she become popular and when they meet it's "You're friends too" that why and the end it says: Sometimes we all get left behind in a race of style--it's a dumb thing. becuase that is what is keeping them from coming together--the guy can't keep up with popularity.

    I Bet i have it all wrong/

General Comment:i like this song but i think it just kinda depics what us young people do with our lives hanging out looking cool, sometimes i can't escape from room diners crners etc. i don't think it's about love or deep and meaningful relatioships just everyday i don't really know you not that i want to.he likes her but he not enough to really really know her.But i don't know the secret stars so i'm probably wrong as usual but that is what it means to me.death cab are so awsome.
