Love I get so lost, sometimes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
Days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
When I want to run away
I drive off in my car
But whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
All my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
The heat I see in your eyes
Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
And all my instincts, they return
And the grand facade, so soon will burn
Without a noise, without my pride

In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
The heat I see in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes
In your eyes, in your eyes

For some reason they can't be together. Incompatibility, fear of committment or life situation.
He sings that he feels empty without her but his thoughts and his whole being always return to her because she is the only thing that makes him feel complete.
He can see his future in her eyes but it is becoming too hard to make the relationship survive.
God, slipping into a deep meaningful and strong relationship that just works so well. That's why I love Peter so much, numerous angles!
By the way, I think this song can be interpreted as a love song, or it can be about God. It seems to be about both so there's probably no right answer. Personally I think it's a love song to a woman, but the lyrics and feel of the song are spiritual.
It has to do with meditation.
( I reach out from the inside)
Often during meditation eyes are seen looking back at you.
When I want to run away I drive off in my car(metaphore)
But which ever way I go I come back to the place you are (inside)
The resoulution of all the fruitless searches. (God is always on the inside waiting patiently)
Think Im wrong? Crazy? Try it
The driving reference is a metaphor for every time we leave god to pursue our selfish desires. But we all come back to what we know to be true “instincts” and the “grand façade so soon will burn” is when we leave our bodies behind, pride and everything we spend our life trying to acquire or earn. All that matters is what’s inside, the part of us we don’t show anyone, where we no longer need the gratitude and cheers of others.
Only the eyes of god can light the way and heat our hearts.
“In your eyes, I see the doorway of a thousand churches” what’s the first thing you see when you walk through the doors of most churches? A cross with Jesus on it, (yes I know he looks down, but from his vantage point he sees all the doors) he then watches all the people who come to him to find resolution but so very few do “fruitless searches”.
The last verse is simple, through all the hard things that life throws at us it’s God who gets us through it.
I would question whether he wrote this for a girl, But, for marketing reasons I can see why he would say that and leave God out of the lyrics.
Generally this crashes and burns, the one devoted to can't stand it, feels undeserving...
OR
They feel deserving, almost always proving their not.
BUT
I would like to think somewhere the perfect devotion met the deserving soul...
The Devotion was deserved, the Love returned in acceptance of the love.
I envy that love.
