Lyrics for Don't Look Back in Anger as interpreted by dsfire

Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off you face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If it's night or day
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock and roll band
Who'll throw it all away

I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off you face
'cause you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger
I heard you say
At least not today

Has anyone noticed how the bass line (& some of the chorus) sounds like the classical piece Pachbel's Canon? Sure Noel G has absorbed bits of Lennon, Beatles etc, bit we are ALL the better for it - 'cause he writes brilliant songs with multiple interpretations...

My take? Slip inside the eye of your mind - treat your past with respect, but don't let the anger wreck your soul (slide away).

This song is about tripping on acid. Think about it:

"Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play"
Should be easy enough to see. When on acid you can see yourself somewhat separate from your body. inside the eye of your mind means some sort of psychadelic drug.

"Start a revolution from my bed..."
When on these two drugs you feel like you are on top of the world, a very big upper.

"Her soul slides away"
After looking at acid there you can reflect on who you have been recently and pick the things you like. In effect, it can be a realization of the bad things going on and a chance to put it "... before i took acid". Your sould slips away would be the old you, the "...before I took acid" you.

"
Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If it's night or day
You have no concept of time when on acid.

"Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a Rock 'n' Roll band
Who'll throw it all away"
-Ever hear of a rock band that used drugs?

Just a thought, but I think its about a trip

Does anybody else think that the piano intro to the song is 99% similar to "Imagine" by John lennon? I'm sorry if this has been discussed earlier. I can't be bothered to look through 5 pages.

part of the song is their inspiration, most likely musically from john lennon (gonna start a revolution from my bed) was essentially mirror image of when lennon staged w bed strikes in the 60's. look it up on youtube u'll be surprised

I read that this song is about a few things.. The lennon interpretation is correct and his reference of standing next to a fireplace is a memory of his childhood when noel's mother forced him to pose for pictures he didn't want to take. But the other part of the song (first verse and chorus and the whole "don't put ur life in the hands of a rock n roll band who'll throw it all away" part ) is about a girl he dated while on tour and how she couldn't deal with him being so involved in the band and the relationship went down the drain cause she wasn't supportive of his music, hence he's telling her "you aint ever gonna burn my heart out" cause he's gonna keep going with it. Oddly enough, the girls name wasn't Sally, he just used that name for the hell of it. This songs awesome!! It alleviates my heartache when I get angry at my musician ex who didn't have time for me and cheated on me with a chick from his label and I became a Sally... I listen to it every time I need to get over the hurt and not look back in anger...

The song is defo bout relegation, noel wrote it after man city ware relegated! this comes straight from the horses mouth watch the city of manchester stadium gig he says it befire they play this song. He talks about it on the dont belive the truth DVD he came up with the line ''dont look back in anger'' when walking down main road, after city had just been relegated. It is played a lots of grounds if a team has just gone down.

Well, Noel Himself still doesn't know what this song is supposed to mean. I tend to think of it as a story of a guy who wants to start something big and wants to become a rock star, his lover doesn't think it's such a good idea, but he goes with his heart and does not care what she has to say.
"Her soul slides away", he's saying she's slipping from his thought of care. The song also talks about him and his lovers personal relationship.

This song seems to have been inspired by a few different things...It's clearly heavily influenced by Lennon as is apparent in the Lyric "start a revolution from my bed" and the opening piano chords reminiscent of Imagine.

I've heard stories of him posing for pictures by the fireplace as a youth (though who knows whether that's utterly made up)

There's an easy connection about the difficulties associated with Love and touring in a band.

When I heard this song last, I poured some of myself into it...I found that the scars of past relationships affect very strongly the course of current ones, unless you can let go of the anger and hurt associated with them.

mat2710 is right. This is an adaptation of some stuff written by john lennon. I think it is a comment on the how now looks from there.

also, the line "gonna start a revolution from my bed" probably alludes to john lennons bed in for peace

i thought it was a mixture of things! there were quotes from lennon as you'd imagine!

but i did think the "stand up beside the fireplace and take that look from off your face" was about his mum trying to make the family look happy when it came to her sending the family christmas card so people didn't think they were poor and or unhappy!

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned that, but the title most likely comes from John Osborne's play, 'Look Back In Anger.'

First of all, the piano in the beginning sounds like Imagine because it IS from Imagine. Noel confirmed all of the inspiration in various interviews and such.

Second, no one's ever going to know the real meaning. Noel said that he was under the influence of some kind of illegal substance and doesn't have any recollection of the song meaning or why he wrote it. If this is the truth, then no one will ever know. If not, then he's probably not going to admit it and no one will ever really know.

NBDQuinn makes sense about the acid trip. I myself felt that whoever wrote it was under the influence of something once I paid attention to the lyrics. Not to say it was specifically acid, but I agree with the general idea.

By the way, this song is a total mind-f**k with the right kind of headphones/audio system when you're high... try it.

«Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play»

I think this part is about MEDITATION. The "eye of your mind" is the "third eye", and "you might find a better place to play" is because when you are in a meditative state it's like you are in a whole, different and better place.

It's not about drugs at all.
