Lyrics for Don't Look Back in Anger as interpreted by dsfire

Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off you face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If it's night or day
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock and roll band
Who'll throw it all away

I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off you face
'cause you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger
I heard you say
At least not today

when i heard this song live i was on the verge of tears. it's sooooo wonderful live.
the first part when noel first comes in with "slip inside..." gives me chills each time i hear it.

i think the song is about a guy and a girl (sally) who were going to get together, but sally decided to not. the guy now has a new girlfriend, and when sally sees the 2 of them together she wishes she had chosen to be with the guy.
"So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by"

Most people don't know this but the lines "Stand up beside the fireplace, Take that look from off you face" relates to Noels childhood. It was when Noel & Liam were having their photograph taken (infront of the fireplace) and because Liam was being a bit mardy his mother said to liam "Stand up beside the fireplace, Take that look from off you face".

am i only one who thinks that the sally being referred to is perhaps sally cinnamon, the single from the stone roses, the band that inspired noel and liam to start oasis?

okay, i just have to get something off my chest. I hate when people say "who really cares what the song is about" Umm... did they not notice that the website they are on is named SONG MEANINGS. jeez obviously we are on this site because we want to interpret the meanings of songs and listen to other peoples interpretations too.

it is about a painful event in the past, which everytime the thought of the experience came to your mind you feel a great deal of pain and anger because the event didnt turn the way you hoped it to be.

i read somewhere that the song was written for noel's mom, about the day his dad left and abandoned them.

it is about forgetting someone who has let you down, and move on with your own life.

i get goosebump each time i listened to this one. u gotta watch familiar to millions concert dvd, at the end of the song you will be convinced that this is one of the best band ever.

Yeah, I thought this was about Lennon, with the lines about slipping inside the eye of your mind - Imagine - also the starting the revolution from your bed, the Beatles also used a lot of names like Sally in their songs, not to mention Lennon feeling that Ono should not date him because of him being in a band...beautiful song, definitely reminisce of Lennon.

This song to me, has lots of meanings...like one line means one thing, that doesn't really connect to the other...like, a lot of what people have said is probably right...except the comment at the start from a so called "roadie" about how it's about walking into a door. Oasis are fantastic, this song is probably my favourite...I mean, nowadays music is so different to what it was 15-20 years ago, and I love the fact that oasis have stuck with what they do best, rather than trying to change to move with the times...this song is amazing, one of my favourite songs EVER.

Alright. I don't think this song has a meaning, or had a meaning when it was written. But here's my interpretation: There is Girl A, and Girl B. Both like a guy. Girl B is Sally. The guy has to choose between the two girls. The guy chooses Girl A, and Sally is sad. After a while, the guy finds out that Girl A wasn't what he wanted, and Sally would have been better for him. Unfortunately, Sally as already moved on (her soul slides away) and the guy is trying to move on (don't look back in anger.)

It's about the past. It's about memories, about nostalgia, about everything you've missed in life and everything you know you should have done. It's about losing yourself in a romance that's so strong it fades away and leaves you with nothing but a bunch of songs.

That's what it means to me anyway :) There seem to be a lot of Beatles references here... like the start sounds like Imagine, some lines were originally John Lennon's... maybe it's just to add to the whole nostalgia thing, for me it makes me think of how it must have been way back when the words "new Beatles album" weren't impossible... wish I'd been born in those days... basically it's about having a relationship with a musician, but it means so much more. I think it does anyway.

Dont look back in anger-Noel said of the song "it reminds me of a cross between All the Yound Dudes and summat the Beatles might've done. Of the character Sally referred to in the song he commented "I dont actually know anybody called Sally. Its jst a word that fitted, u know might as well throw a girls name in there. Its gotta guarantee sombody a shag off a bird called Sally hasnt it? Noel claims Lyla from the 05 single is the sister of Sally. Liam said tht it was him who came up wt the line "so sally can wait." Neol admits "I was doing the so Sally bit in sound check-but i wsnt singing tht- and Liam says 'Are you singing so Sally can wait?' and i said NO. and he said , well u should. Originally it was said to be Crowley-as in Aleister Crowley.

This is my absoloute favourite song, period....and that's precisely why I skip over it on the CD. It's such a nostalgic song that stirs something up when i listen to it so thats why I try not to too frequently...because then it will become just another great song that doesn't do anything for me...does anyone else feel like that? A need to perserve you favourite songs for the way they make you feel?..Anyway, i dont think the meaning is something we can interperet collectively..but rather, its like a collage or ideas put together so that it doesnt make sense as a whole ...only bit by bit

I used to hate oasis because I thought they didn't have any real emotion in their songs, boy was I wrong...
This song makes me cry and is really beautiful, while also inspiring me to let go of my past. It also reminds me of a whole room of people singing along to a man with an acoustic guitar at a shakespeare's head in Holborn by the palladium...That was the moment I begin to realize how amazing oasis really is.

I'm convinced the first lines are about drugs opening your mind. Or maybe it's just about having an open mind about things and being introspective. Doing the things you truely want to do, when you want to, so that you won't regret doing things you when you're older.

I don't know.
This song means alot of things to me, I can't really explain it.

Apaprently, when asked what exactly the lyrics meant, they had to admit that they had no idea what it was about, that it just fitted, or something. I don't know if that's true, I believe it as it means that no one is wrong about it, if you take it to mean something then that's ok. You can make it all about you, and you'll never be wrong.

Noel gallagher is a brilliant songwriter, he take's small riff's of other songs, mixes non-sense lyrics with meaningful ones, throws it all in a song and it turns out mega. I think the solo is amazing in this song.

who the fuck is sally ?

my guess is sally is an unknown 'normal' girl that lennon chose to neglect and take ono, that oasis believed brought about his demise and death.
