Lyrics for Don't Look Back in Anger as interpreted by dsfire

Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off you face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If it's night or day
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock and roll band
Who'll throw it all away

I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed
'cause you said the brains I have went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off you face
'cause you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger
I heard you say
At least not today

It was actually written about John Lennon! its to do with memoirs of him that they found 7 years after his death... along with other things.

This song is about a love Triangle my friends.
The man 'singing' the song is caught with his new lover who he really wants to treat right.
Sally is the former lover who he sees walking around destroyed by him...
The man knows that there is a chance for the ex lover but he loves the new one and dispite having a crazy time tells her that it's too late for sally:
So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger
I heard you say
At least not today
It angers the man to see his ex love so compulsively wanting him dispite all the facts that he has moved on.

This song is a perfect example of putting together sentence after sentence, wherever they come from be it a quote from Lennon or whatever...put a melodic genius musical ballad type thing to it and hey presto..the oasis winning formular. Fantastic

In my oopinion this song is about how "person A" has gone through a tough break-up and is blaming agonizing over it. "Person B" is tell "person A" not to look back at the relationship focused on the bad parts, but on the happy parts. Saying that it would be less painful to look back with a smile, than to look back in anger.

Its a great song that gets me every time. To add upon the greatness the instramental is outstanding. I've been in love with Oasis since the beginning.

I interpret this song to mean that this girl loves him more than anything and whenever he turns her down, she feel like there is nothing to live for.

when i first heard this song i thought it was about a girl who he had to leave behind because he's in band.. and not looking back in anger on the relationship - but be happy that it happened..
kinda like its better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all
but now that im reading everyone elses, they all sound like good interpretations

This song is my favourite Oasis song. It means...Sally can wait because it's too late to fix what's happened. Her soul slides away in a river of emotions, but she decides not to look back upon it angrily...

This song is about everything and nothing. It's just a bunch of sentences with different meanings put together where he probably mixes most of his emotions at the time. There is some Lennon in the song, there is some don't live in the past in the song and there is some love related theme in the song also. It's brilliant how everyone can relate to the song in a different way and everyone is actually right about the meaning of it.
And by the way just in case there is no "Sally" I read in an interview Noel just thought the name fitted perfectly in that part of the song and he needed to use some name anyway...

I've always thought this song is about Noel's mum, but it's true there are lots of other things in there.
One of my favourite things about the song is the 'speech marks' around the line about the rock n roll band. If you listen to it, there are two guitar sounds that occur like this

'Please dont put your life in the hands of a rock n' roll band , and throw it all away'

I've always imagined this as Noel's mum being scared of him wanting to be a rock star - as mothers are - and saying this to him. The two guitar sounds are ironic - like underlining the fact that look, he IS in a rock n roll band and he's okay. I don't know if that would have been Noel's idea or the producer's idea or what, but it's a genius little touch which adds something to the son.

I see what I put didn't come out above ! It was meant to be:

'Please dont put your life in the hands (zing) of a rock n' roll band (zing), and throw it all away'

I think it's about John Lennon's death. Think about it, the opening riff is clearly a tribute to 'Imagine,' 'So I start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I have went to my head' is also a reference to Lennon and finally, he is saying that when we die, we should not look back in anger at our death because we are headed to a much happier place than this. Sally can wait as her soul slides away.

I have had countless people tell me that they wrote this with John Lennon's "Imagine" in their minds. You can hear that from the simple piano line in the intro. Also, i saw them play in Melbourne a few days ago, they dominated. Probably the best band i've seen live. Morning glory by far the best song on the night. Don't look back in anger was good but not as good as i thought it would be, it seems Starky doesn't drum it quite the same.

"i've always interpreted the song as a combination of some of the above comments. the singer is in a rock band and his relationship with his girlfriend comes to the point where it's either the band or her. "Please don't put your life in the hands of a rock and roll band who'll throw it all away." is his girlfriend asking him. he decides to go with the band and not look back and wonder what could have been. For some reason I've always pictured the line "She knows it's too late as were's walkin on by" as the band walking past the girl backstage and going onto the stage. "
i didnt really get what this song meant, but now wrion added the above comment i think hes abolsutely right. i think its about a mixture of things too, such as the tribute to john lennon and the part about the fireplace and his mother.

Noel said: "[it] reminds me of a cross between 'All the Young Dudes' and summat the Beatles might've done". Of the character "Sally" referred to in the song he commented "I don't actually know anybody called Sally. It's just a word that fitted, y'know, might as well throw a girl's name in there. It's gotta guarantee somebody a shag off a bird called Sally hasn't it?". I've also heard that "Stand up beside the fireplace / Take that look from off your face" is taken from Peggy Gallagher's instructions to Noel when he would have his photograph taken next to the fireplace when he was a child. Some lyrics were statements from John Lennon, "revolution in my head". Great song

I just LOVE Oasis. Next to the Beatles, of course.

See, Noel's song are riddles! It's up to you how you'll interpret it. But it has a meaning. Just deep. Very deep.

Haha, you know what? I think Noel got his songwriting influence from John Lennon. John Lennon wrote the song I Am The Walrus so that people would have a hard time interpreting his songs. But Noel's song are deep, John's I Am The Walrus is a joke.. really. But I like I Am The Walrus, it's John's plaful side who is writing.

Anyway! Don't look back in anger is a great song, it's just up to you how you'd interpret. Noel's song are riddles, that's why everyone like it!

"Her/My soul slides away, but don't look back in anger I heard you say"
"Her/My soul slides away" refers to their respective reminiscing about their past love and how a part of their souls are entwined, though they are now seperated. "don't look back in anger" is a double entendre that refers both to the current situation, sally and himself, not looking at the dark side of the relatoinship, and when reminiscing he recalls sally saying "don't look back in anger, I heard you say", sally obviously offered this pice of advice and was, perhaps, referring to one of their previous exs, which is supported by the last verse "at least not today", refers to his finding of a new love so its easier for him to remember the love he had for her.
