Lyrics for Breaking The Girl as interpreted by dsfire

Breaking The Girl Lyrics
I am a man
Cut from the know
Rarely do friends
Come and then go
She was a girl
Soft but estranged
We were the two
Our lives rearranged
Feeling so good that day
A feeling of love that day

Chorus:
Twisting and turning
Your feelings are burning
You’re breaking the girl
She meant you no harm
Think you’re so clever
But now you must sever
You’re breaking the girl
He loves no one else

Raised by my dad
Girl of the day
He was my man
That was the way
She was the girl
Left alone
Feeling the need
To make me her home
I don’t know what, when or why
The twilight of love had arrived

Chorusx2

A very good RHCP song. I believe it's about a guy who's a player but finds the right girl and screws it up.

Like dsfire said, I think he played her for sex. But I think she had no one in the world and wanted a relationship. So he led her on for a while because he didn't want to have to deal with her. He thought he was tho sh*t for scoring with her, but now he realizes she is going to keep clinging to him, and he'll have to tell her how he really feels. He feels guilty because she just wanted love ('meant you no harm'). She's destroyed because she believed that he cared for her. maybe?

i never really thought of it that way, but now that i have, i agree. he played her ('think you're so clever').
but then he realized that he fell for her but it didn't work out for some reason... which is why he 'must sever'.. and she loved him, which is why she'd be breaking...
she's dependent on him, he's all she wants... and now he has to 'fess up.
he's confused, because he wants her, but it won't work.
ohh, thought! perhaps "he loves no one else" really means "he loves no one else BUT HIMSELF" ? that would make sense because it ties into the playing thing.

but anyways, it's a good song.

Listening to what everybody else has to say im going to give my opinion on what the song is about. I think this guy is a player, does what he wants. Meets this girl and automatically knows she is the one... a feeling of love that day... But he just can't get out of his instincts of being the player he is. They are falling in love but he knows he has to break up with her... knowing this will break her... he feels bad.... she meant you no harm... but he just can't seem to make it work for him. He loves no one else i think means that either he only loves himself or he truly does love her but just can't seem to make this work.

Me and my friend have been pretty dang obsessed with the Chili Peppers for a long time now. We always listen to their songs over and over, trying to figure out what they mean. We've come up with some theories. First, it could be about taking a girls virginity for the fun of it...maybe. Maybe the guy thinks the girl doesn't know he's just using her. I don't know, these are just guesses. My other friend said it could be about having sex with a girl and she didn't want it or something, but when he says "feeling the need to make me her home" that doesn't make sense. I think it definately has something to do with sex. Maybe not but I think so.
Thanks! Luv you all! ~*~Tessa~*~

i think that everyone mostly has it right about him being a player and u get this from the lines " raised by my dad girl of the day" which basically shows his dad taught him to play the ladies and he 's met this girl and he feel in love with her and she desperately loves him backl but in tha end he jsut can't break the mold of being a player , it's all he knows- which is proven in the line "feelings are burning" which shows he can't stya tied down. So instead of breaking his player pattern , his breaks the girl. I don't know, maybe i got that completely wrong, But it was worth a shot.

I think the song is talking about 2 different guys and one girl. The first guy is the girl's best friend. the second one is a player. One day the first guy falls in love with the girl but she doesnt love him. She's in love with the second guy. Then the first guy gets mad becasue he thought she was leading him on but really she meant him no harm. So he does something to hurt her thinking he is really clever but really this is just killing there whole relationship entirely. Then everyone has already talked about the player "breaking" her. So as i was saying the the song talks about the relationship that 2 guys have with the same girl. The first verse talks about the first guy's relationship. Then the 3rd verse talks about the second guy's relationship. And the chorus talks about the feelings both of them have for the girl but for different reasons.

yeh it's definately about a player guy who falls in love with a girl.... And I agree with the theory about being taught by his father that it's okay to cheat etc.

im pretty sure this song is one of anthony's more personal songs he has written throughout his career. I think its about him losing his virginity for the first time if what i read is true he lost it very young (12,13) somewhere around there."Raised by my dad Girl of the day He was my man That was the way" i think this is talking about his dad and how many girls would come in and out of his house because his dad was a director or something and i guess thats why he thought it was ok. However i think somewhere in the song he conveys that he hurt the girl because he was probably being a typical male and not talking into consideration her feelings. and "your feelings are burning" really does remind me of your first time having sex cause thats essentially whats happening. I think its cool that he can say shit like that i never really new that guys felt the same way about shit like that. Also i think when it says she was left alone that maybe she was meant for his dad and he took advantage of the situation. I hope im right about the song i find pleasure in being so godamn analytical (heh)

On the Funky Monks RHCP video they talk about this song and how it's about un-virgining a girl. Thats waht Anthony says but it might have more than one meaning.
Whatever the meaning a great Chili's song.

un-vigining a girl? don't you mean popping her cherry?

anyway... This is a most excellant song. Blood Sugar Sex Magik comes in a close second to Aenima by Tool for my favorite CD

Well, i can see what everyone means about the guy being a "playa" thing. but to me this song is about two people who are really in love. But the guy is pretty messed up and has a lot of problems. he keeps piling on his problems to the girl because shes the only one there for her. she deals with it but soon they start to weigh her down, hence the breaking the girl part. soon he realizes taht everything they had is gone because he put too much pressure on her. He thought everything would work out but now he realizes that it has to end. the think your so clever but now u must sever part is about that. I dont know, maybe i just think that cuz thats what im going throough now...its open to lots of different meanings, the first time sex thing makes sense too

I think rchpbek got the closest to my interpretation. Ya see Anthony moved out to California to live with his dad when he was just a little kid and his dad introduced him to this fast-paced life of drugs and girls. A lot of girls came through his dad's place and the song is about an early encounter with one of them. I think I once read that he lost his virginity at age 13 or something.
