Lyrics for Please Please Please Let Me Get What I W... as interpreted by YtseJam

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I W... Lyrics
Good times for a change
see, the luck I've had
can make a good man
turn bad

So please please please
let me, let me, let me
let me get what I want
this time

Haven't had a dream in a long time
see, the life I've had
can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
let me get what I want
Lord knows it would be the first time
Lord knows it would be the first time

Love this song. Such longing and heartache. This is one of the Smiths songs that deals straightforward with the meaning and the music. It's wishful thinking in poetry.

ah to be 15 again, depressed, misunderstood, and filled with unrequited love, with my parents knocking on my bedroom door telling me to turn on the lights and stop playing this song over and over and over again *sigh*

Everyone talks about songs that make you feel something, but really, The Smiths just nail that. Long title, short song, good stuff

Short, bitter, poignant, like Morrissey has cut through all the BS poetry and is just plainly, heartbreakingly speaking his mind...like a prayer that you mouth to yourself more than to God:
"For once in my life, let me get what I want. Lord knows, it would be the first time."

'haven't had a dream for a long time' says to me that he's got one now, and has some hope. that and the fact that 'the luck i've had' not turning him bad (a good person despite his life) stop this from being the most depressing song ever. incidentally the instrumental cover version by The Dream Academy is the gallery music from Feris Bueller's Day Off. lovely version too.

Another short song that encapsulates the edge of despair and longing. If you link this song to others like How soon is now, last night I dreamt...., No one ever, That joke isn't funny..., and finally I know its over you may have the perfect medley of most depressing songs ever.
Putting aside the lyrics the tune and in particular the mandolin is beautiful. The instrumental cover version in the 80s film Ferris Bueller's Day Off (the gallery scene) highlights this.

I love this song, especially the instrumental part, so beautiful.
It was in Ferris Buhler's day off too.

I adore this song and the wonderful way he sings it (great the way he manages to sing slightly off the beat at some points for extra emphasis). I'm not 100% convinced about the tremolo ending, but then I used to play it on repeat for hours on end, it gets a bit boring after a while. Nevermind, it's still one of my favourites.

After listening to it for the 101º time (I am a new Smiths fan) It sounded like a prayer! He repeats "Please" lots of times, as if he were begging for a chance, as it could be his last in a lifetime. Fantastic! Thouchs deeply!

Aacesgirl I have listened to this song probably a thousand times since I heard it in the mid 80s and it wears well!
