    General Comment:Back when this song was written, there was a bit of a stink over black artists being played on MTV. Before this era, black music was black and white music was white. Nowadays there's not really a color line. That's what this song is about. It was written in the heat of the musical color wars.

    well, it's basically looking at the distance and segregation between cultures and races within our own country. she's trying to motivate people to work together as one cohesive unit. music is probably the one thing that we all have in common and she tries to use it to connect us.
