Freak out
And give in
Doesn't matter what you believe in
Stay cool
And be somebody's fool this year
'cause they know
Who is righteous, What is bold
So I'm told

Who wants honey
As long as there's some money
Who wants that honey?

Hipsters unite
Come align for the big fight to rock for you
But beware
All those angels with their wings glued on
'cause deep down
We are frightened and we're scared
If you don't stare

Who wants honey
As long as there's some money
Who wants that honey?

Let me out
Let me out
Let me out
Let me out

Tell me all of your secrets
Cannot help but believe this is true
Tell me all of your secrets
I know, I know, I know,
Should have listened when I was told

Who wants honey
As long as there is some money
Who wants that honey?

Let me out
Let me out
Let me out
Let me out

General Comment:I live in the Chicago area. These guys are from the north side, and have not showed their faces since Billy's drug issues, and since their big hits. They did come out a couple of years ago for a local Chicago concert that was a benefit for a local artist that got shot up pretty bad in some street violence here.

This song was definitely their opinion of the music industry, as I believe they made their money and ran as far away from it as they could. You've got to respect their firm adherence to their beliefs - it's refreshing.

My Interpretation:So, this song is about the eviel music industry. I never got that vibe even though the lyrics ARE delivered with a hint of sarcasm, leading to the conclusion they are words said in spite. Actually, this song always gave me extreme bliss, and it's hard for me to imagine it being very critical or reprimanding. To me it always felt like an attempt to transcend, or reach for something. Yes, clearly the songwriter is upset with some scene he is a part of, hence the repeated line "Let me out" sung in a voice tinged with ambition.

There is a theme of rebellion in this song. "I know, I know, I know, should have listened when I was told," also with "Hipsters unite. Come align for the big fight to rock for you." I think he is on the side of the hipsters. You have to remember that at the time this was written, "hipster" didn't have such a negative connotation. Maybe the hipster THEN was actually someone who was on the fringe of artistic expression.

"Deep down we are frightened, and we're scared if you don't stare."
A sincere sounding lyric, if you ask me. I think it means that we all crave attention, even if it isn't much.

And the chorus has always been especially puzzling. I think the songwriter really doesn't care about money, as long as there's enough to get by, and that "honey" is just good feelings. Hell, I'd use that word to describe this whole album, matter of fact.

It's a classic song from a classic album and one of my long-time favorites.

General Comment:Regardless of what the lyrics are about, the music itself is amazing. That power chord riff is from another world.

General Comment:I know and understand that this is about the music aindustry but to me it is about something smaller... High school

I myself being a high school student interpret it this way:

The first part is about the popular kids, telling you hwo you should act, what you should do, what styles are in these days, anything like that...

The Chorus is about how everyones willing to be popular, have friends, be liked, get a boyfriend/girlfriend, the "Honey" Refering to all the good stuff

The second part is about the people who only pretend to be your friend whether to make fun of you or to make you look like an idiot (Trust me hald my "Friends" are like that. "The angels with their wings glued on" referring to the people who act sweet and nice to you, like "Angels" but it was all fake "The wings glued on"

"Let me out!" Obviously what half the people that are in highschool think, they want out for good

The second part is about the people you can actually get along with "Tell me all of your secrets" and "Shouldve listened to what im told" Would be all the trouble you face on your way.

AGAIN< thats just MY THEORY, the music industry idea makes sense to me, but thats a way I relate to it

My Interpretation:Love this song first of all. This song could be about an acid trip that the user is paranoid and not thinking straight. Also, this song is a prime example of how they don't make music the way they used to - I haven't heard a song that parallels this in years, possibly a decade or so. The sheer force and driving angst behind grunge is long dead and sadly no bands have replaced the sound to something on the same level. Grunge is dead and rock music as a whole is a dying breed. God help us all...

Song Meaning:I think the lyrics can be generalized past the "music industry" theme. It's an anthem about being true to yourself despite the cultural and monetary pressures to conform. American Beauty-esque.

I want to live my life this way, and get buried to this song.

Song Meaning:hmm...even though the songs sound completely different, I think this has some sort of connection from this to feel good Inc. (by the gorillaz.) when I read the lyrics and read peoples opinions on what the song was about, I immediately thought of that song. they both refer to the media, and how they greatly control many aspects of peoples lives, including the music we listen to. then when Billy sings, "let me out..." that was like in the feel good Inc music vid, where the singer is trapped in the building called, "feel good Inc" and everyone is "asleep," and he tries to sing the song to wake them up. long story, but basically they're contented with "feeling good" and they went along with the media, or what was "in" or whatever, instead of being awake and thinking differently. the people who are in control are laughing at him the whole time, telling him that what he's going is useless, and that his individual voice will "kill the Inc." they crush him, anyway, because no one is moved by the song, and by the end the singer is sort of brainwashing himself into thinking that everything is OK, doing like the res of the people. the song ends with him singing to himself, "feel good... feel good..."

the important thing is that amidst all this, he is staring longingly out the dirty window at a floating island in the sky, which could represent mental freedom and escape. he wants more than anything to be there, outside of this influence, and that's why the song is kinda sad to me, because in the end he gives in.

haha sorry, origionally this was going to be short, but it ended up me babbling for way to long about the gorillaz...again. oh well they deserve it. so does Billy! smashing pumpkins and gorillaz kick Miley cyrus' ass >:D

Song Meaning:This song is the definition of todays societal structure. Where ever your place may be in society you almost always destined to fall in line, "Doesn't matter what you believe in." You will fall in place of what you see laid out before you. This song is amazing because it may not only apply to teens but also politics. Lets explore teenage youth. It is not at all hard to see our youth's emotional priorities deteriorating due to the over dramatization by frequencies distributed by the media. By this I mean much of "the youth" has been putting thoughts that are completely pointless and sinful before vital importances of life. These importances for example are, eating, sleeping, hydrating properly, reading, loving, and respecting. Self respect is a vital component to life because with out that you can not properly respect another. So when we have "our youth" not respecting them selfs they fall into line and become "somebody's fool this year." They follow and engage in new activities of their new group until they find another to follow next. As long as we appear cool and "stay cool" nothing else really matters right? This is a common misconception of male youth. We are becoming more feminine in the ways we act, dress, and perceive the world around. Young women just as messed up as men. "We are frightened and we're scared" "If you don't stare." This is horrible but true to many, just watch MTV for 5 minutes and try to make logical sense of the interactions laid out before you. Is this truly how we should be acting in society?
