Don't ever fucking question that (6x)

[Slug]
Enough to hold you to the brightest of lights,
to place you dangerously close to that sun,
enough to acknowledge the flaws you can't ignore
and recognize the cause of what's done is done,
more than enough to put my name behind my ideals,
and neglect my logic twice daily.
enough to keep me looking for my lucy in the sky with gems,
when I remember how you used to call me baby,
enough to look in my mirror with detest
for every tear you shed regardless of why you wept,
enough to curse any man who can't appreciate the depth
of the ocean I swam till I ran out of breath.

I love you, don't ever fucking question that,
that's why we'll probably never get along.
if I was better at finding the right words to say,
I wouldn't need to write these motherfucking songs.

[Slug]
I love you, I love you (faded)
never, don't ever fucking question that,
don't ever fucking question that.
riding the public transit,
I study the blank stares to answer my questions
of how and why I got so many grey hairs.
I take care of the nervous that runs through my extension cord,
and I reflect on that reoccurring dream where we met the Lord.
single file lines, to give her a pound one at a time
but when i faced her- I attempted to embrace her, she looked so fine,
I awoke from my sleep before her bodyguard had a chance to beat me
to submission and I still walk with my religion.
I watched the children scurry in circles around a two-way mirror,
worrying about which side of the glass projects the reflection clearer.
I hear the whispers of the wind trying to get me to grin,
gassing' me up about the love that I plucked and I've been stuck within,
for every eclipse that stares at me
from the other side of a paper cup of espresso-
I light a match beneath a kettle,
and for ever set of lips that become attached and equipped with that program
to seek success, i bleed my ethics out a slow drip.
I used to know a man who met a woman, dont remember where,
big beautiful eyes and light brown hair,
she was from the burbs, he was from the south side of the city,
this was back when Franklin avenue was still pretty.
two different worlds apart, but the world is just a small town-
we all know how people like to get down.
here we go, aquarius, pisces,
feel the flow of the fluid as I swim through it to free my soul.
bush shoved the cane without the glove numbed the pain.
the magic from up above what it does for the brain,

make the love, paint the picture,
write the song, the player met a virgin made a virgo named him sean.
make the love, paint the picture,
write the song, the player met a virgin made a virgo named him sean.
make the love, paint the picture
and write that song till the break of dawn.

[Slug]
I love you- don't ever fucking question that,
that's why we'll probably never get along.
if I was better at finding the right words to say,
I wouldn't have to write these motherfucking songs.(2X)
I love you (make the love, paint the picture,
and write that song [in faded background]).
I love you.. I love you..

General Comment:To me this song, at least the first verse, is about losing a long-term romantic relationship. Pretty clearly it can be read with "I love you" before each "enough" line (and the intro/title if you want to), but the fact that the words aren't there is poetic in itself.

Fantastic song. He does what great artists seem to do: He uses his music to create a conduit through which you feel like you are sharing his shoes.

General Comment:My first impression of this song is that he is referring to loving his life. Maybe they will never get along (him and his life) because there will always be problems they will face and nothing will ever be completely perfect. He never questions that he loves his life, but that if his life was perfect in every way he wouldnt have the need to vent and get out his emotions through his songs. Thats the chorus interpretation. As for the verses, i feel that these are small memories of his life, good times and bad. Incorporating his childhood, parents, lovers friends and just random people he has had the pleasure of meeting throughout his life. I imagine sean looking at himself through a mirror (as said on line 10) and telling himself that he loves himself and loves life no matter what struggles he is going through.
As for "make the love, paint the picture,
write the song, the player met a virgin made a virgo named him sean" i think this is how he was created. Make the love, (parents making love to have slug) paint the picture (his family introducing him to life and preparing him to be an adult) write the song ( he becomes a successful artist). the player met a virgin (how his parents met) made a virgo (slug was born on sept 7th) name him sean (real name sean daley).

General Comment:I agree with snaggly snakeyes. This song is linked to The River, so if you like, you should all check out my interpretation on The River because I talk a little bit about this song as well.

General Comment:im pretty sure this song is about his mom.. im pretty sure its all about his mom.

I love you, dont ever fucking question that, that's why we'll probably never get along.

it really sounds like he wrote this for his mom, saying that he may get mad at her, but he still loves her.. idk
i know no one will prove different from what i think

    Lyric Correction:I'd always heard:
Push shove to came without the glove

    instead of:
bush shoved the cane without the glove

(A play on words, instead of push came to shove, a phrase meaning one thing led to another, which is usually how sex happens, but rearranged to make it even more about sex, I love this fuckin guy)

General Comment:Well I had a sort of long interpretation written out but I've lost it so I'm not fucked doing it again lol.

I think that this song is beyond comprehension. First, you need to have listened to SDBD II and also the other Lucy EPs to even be able to begin understanding what Slug is saying, and even then, it's still completely impossible. This song is so ambiguous that it isn't funny. It could be about women, it could be about Hip-Hop, I have no idea. It's certainly not as cut and dry as a lot of people think it is.

General Comment:umm i dunno but i think everyones gonna have a different interpretation of this song and thats what makes it great. its not so straightforward that you cant relate to it. your gonna take something different from it everytime you hear it, depending on whats going on in your life

My Opinion:most of you guys are all retarded... sixth grade poetry? if you can show me one poem by a sixth grader that gets anywhere near atmosphere's depth of emotion i'll give you a million dollars. don't comment on music if you don't actually know anything about the artist, or life for that matter
