I don't feel as if I know you
You take up all my time
The days are long and the nights will throw you away
'cause the sun don't shine
Nobody ever mentions the weather
Can make or break your day
Nobody ever seems to remember
That life is a game we play
We live in the shadows and we had the chance and threw it away
And it's never gonna be the same
'cause the years are falling by like the rain
And it's never gonna be the same
Till the life I knew comes to my house and says
Hello
There ain't no sense in feeling lonely
I've got no faith in you
But I've got a feeling you still owe me
So wipe the shit from your shoes
Nobody ever mentions whoever
Can make or break your day
Nobody ever seems to remember
That life is a game we play
We live in the shadows and we had the chance and threw it away
And it's never gonna be the same
'cause the years are falling by like the rain
And it's never gonna be the same
Till the life I knew comes to my house and says
Hello
Hello<--- 3 times
[It's good to be back, good to be back]
Hello
Hello
Hello

'Nobody ever mentions the weather can make or break your day' - this reminds me of a couple of nights before she broke up with me, she wouldn't speak to me about anything sensible so she started speaking to me about the weather. And if someone starts to talk about the weather then there not going to make or break your day.
'We live in the shadows and we had the chance and threw it away, And it's never gonna be the same' - speaks for itself and it wouldn't work if we ever got back together.
'There ain't no sense in feeling lonely' - telling me to pick myself up and stop mopeing around.
'Til the life I knew comes to my house and says, Hello' - this is the point i'm at after listening to this song again. Basically going back to my life again and saying hello to what I left behind when I got with her.
'But I've got a feeling you still owe me, So wipe the shit from your shoes' - she still owes me money.
'Hello, Hello, Hello....' - the future, looking forward to the future.
This is how I see it anyway and I hope its the turning point! :)
I don't think that line is about a girlfriend, I think it's about your old life, when you try to start again, you try to move on but your old life comes back.
I love this song.
When I first heard this, I was sort of falling asleep, it was late at night, and at first, I thought it was Wonderwall. When the wavy guitar came in, it scared the shit out of me. Good song though.
"The years are FOLLOWING by like the rain" as opposed to "falling by like the rain". The latter would seem to make more sense.
I believe this song is obliquely about a failed relationship. It is written to someone who, via their mistakes, ruined what was and/or could have been a great relationship. "Years falling by like the rain, it's never gonna be the same" implies that the time that's passed since things went bad make a reconciliation hard and/or impossible. "till the life I knew comes to my house and says hello" IE a momentous event.
Great song. Liam's voice is perfect for it.
Some of my favorite lines: Nobody ever seems to remember that life is a game we play. (Basically, life is a game with no real meaning or point)
We live in the shadows and we had the chance and threw it away. (You could have done anything you wanted with your life, but you wasted it all)
And it's never gonna be the same, cause the years are following by like the rain. (They never wrote a truer line. It just sums up all the pain and emotion that comes with growing up. Being 16, I listen to this song a lot and think how about growing up and how everything seems to be changing all at once)
This song is just plain amazing. My anthem. :)
