On and on, reckless abandon
Something's wrong
This is gonna shock them
Nothing to hold on to
We'll use this song
To lead you on

I learned a lot today
Not sure if I'll get laid and
Not sure if I'll fail or pass
Kissed every girl in class
Everybody would waste it all
To have a summer that they could call
A memory that's full of fun
Fucked up when it's all done

On and on, reckless abandon
Something's wrong
This is gonna shock them
Nothing to hold on to
We'll use this song
To lead you on
And break the truth
With more bad news
We left a scar
Size extra large

Sip a drink of the alcohol
End up kneeling in bathroom stalls
Eyes are red and my movements slow
Too high, got vertigo

He took a shit in the bathroom tub
And fed the dog brownie drugs
Tried hard not to get caught
He fucked a chick in the parking lot

On and on, reckless abandon
Something's wrong
This is gonna shock them
Nothing to hold on to
We'll use this song
To lead you on
And break the truth
With more bad news
We left a scar
Size extra large

Break a window and bust a wall
Making fun of your friend's mom
Turn the music up way too loud
Charge the pizza to the house
Everybody would waste it all
To have a summer that they could call
A memory that's full of fun
Fucked up when it's all done

On and on, reckless abandon
Something's wrong
This is gonna shock them
Nothing to hold on to
We'll use this song
To lead you on
And break the truth
With more bad news
We left a scar
Size extra large

General Comment:i'm not 100% but it sounds to me that at the beginning of the song he whispers "here we go motherfuckers" into the mic

General Comment:i think this song has that whole "i don't give a fuck attitude." its about teenagers doing what they want, when they want because they have no idea what they're doing with their life. they settle for doing drugs and drinking the entire summer because they feel like they don't have anything else to live for. its about teenage angst. i think any teenager can relate to at least some part of this song in one way. "we left a scar size extra large" we scar our families and ourselves with our behavior. but we just don't care. we love to party and we love to feel free. we're teenagers.

and those who think they hear something at the beginning of the song, it's the last held note from "roller coaster," the song before this one on the album. ""

Actually there is some speaking at the beginning of the song.

-Listen to the song with earphones.

-take out your LEFT earphone (if you're using them right) and turn the volume up

-At 0:03 the guitar flange (from the previous song) fades out and you can clearly hear someone talk, then sing, then speak again.

-at 0:16 you might wanna turn down the music or take the earphones off completely cuz you'll get started at the sudden burst of sound ;)

I know this is super late but I've been listening to Blink alot lately and pining for my youth (though i'm only 22 now..). I used to be like a lot of the teens here, thinking this song was about just being a wild teen trying to have a fun time, never really paying attention to the "we used this song to lead you on/left a scar sized extra large" line. Why? Well like many kids you only hear what you wanna.

Now that I'm older i listen to this song and really understand it because I've been there; crazy kid having fun to realizing some of those fun moments might of left their mark on my life in a not so positive way.

Anyway, just wanted to clear it up for any younger people out there that might just be getting in to Blink and thinking that they're crazy for hearing weird voices at the start of the song: You're not, dont listen to The St. Jimmy ;)

General Comment:and those who "hear something weird in the middle of the song," that's stereo seperation: left ear hears vocals, and right ear hears guitar strumming. that's why it's evident when you seperate the earphones.

General Comment:this song is about one summer that totally somehow related to three seperate groups of my friends, and I didn't even realize it until I listened to this song closely.

    "i learned alot today..."

-that verse is about my friend alex. he's a man-whore, or so he dubs himself, and the last day of school last year (my junior year), he was able to kiss every girl in our english class. he got laid later that day, too.

"sip a drink of the alcohol..."

-this verse is about a few of my friends in our school's Key Club. they went to the state championships last summer, and got reeeal fucked up (or so I heard; I''m not in Key Club with them) in their hotel room one night. all I remember was that they told me that brownie drugs, a toilet, and poop was all involved in one way that I probably blocked out of my mind for a good reason.

"break a window and bust a wall..."

-the last verse is about one day over the summer when my parents were away on a cruise. I invited like 10 friends over...making fun of each other's moms...my bathroom wall got busted...and I charged the pizza to the house. the music wasn't way too loud, but it was loud enough.

all in all, it was a great summer, and this song always brings back memories.

General Comment:To me this is about having priceless times with friends but then it eventually dries up and is an attempt to get the good times back
