EPONINE
And now I'm all alone again
Nowhere to turn, no one to go to
Without a home, without a friend,
Without a face to say hello to.
And now the night is near
Now I can make believe he's here.
Sometimes I walk alone at night
When everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and then I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping
The city goes to bed
And I can live inside my head.
On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone, I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me
In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me for ever and forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone, the river's just a river
Without him the world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers
I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life I've only been pretending
Without me his world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known!
I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own.
And now I'm all alone again
Nowhere to turn, no one to go to
Without a home, without a friend,
Without a face to say hello to.
And now the night is near
Now I can make believe he's here.
Sometimes I walk alone at night
When everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and then I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping
The city goes to bed
And I can live inside my head.
On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone, I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me
In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me for ever and forever
And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us

But every day I'm learning
All my life I've only been pretending
Without me his world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known!
I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own.

i love him, but only on my own.
'On My Own' is truly a beautiful song, and when sung by the right actress, can reach out to people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures. Too often this song is taken out of context and sung for concerts without the singer looking at it's place in the Musical. The events leading up to this song are SO important to her character and no one can really understand how she feels without looking at them.
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
Hes ready to find that one person and he doesnt know it yet but hes found her.
this song is for the only guy ive ever loved. he was my first love when i was 10.. we grew up together... but then ive been moving around so much through out the years that things never seem to work for us. i see him move on as i still think of him while im away. the sad part is that when i do see him.. whenever im home.... i can tell by the way he sees me that there is "still way for us"... everyone that knows us and our story knows. maybe i havent given up yet. i feel like i might have to someday.. but not yet.
or maybe.. "its only in my mind"
this blows
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us
For anyone that has had a secret love, the song makes you ache at the memory
No matter how horribly popified this song is, it's still beautiful. Eponine is a street urchine in love with Marius, a student of the revolution. As she walks the streets of France at night, she imagines that she is with Marius. The reason this song is so sad is because she is so happy. She's happy at just the thought of him... a level I don't think everyone understands. It's beyong unrequited love. It's when that person can make everything better by just thinking of them no matter how sucky your life is. You may think you can relate to this, but I doubt it. Eponine has a horrible life. Her father abused her, she lives on the streets, yet just the thought of Marius gets her through. Even though he'll never love her, she still loves him and is willing to help him (See Eponine's Errand)
