As we trudge along through the mud
And we tried to call it home
But we weren't alright, not at all
Not for one second

Never have been one to write it down
Now I think I can
I know I'm stronger now
Who's looking south
Not me I'm not looking back
I'm done denying the truth to anyone
Cause I'm alive

You showed me how
You seemed to find a hole
But I just laughed and smiled
Begged and rolled my eyes
Even cried and
Denied the truth to you
Just like the truth to me
Mostly lied

I'm not going to look back

White it out like glittering wax butterflies

My Interpretation:Hi there, firstly I'd like to say I love The Used, saw them at soundwave, best moment of my life. I adore this song because I feel like I can relate to it a bit due to my past. I just wanted to put my two cents in on this one really. So here goes:

"As we trudged along through the mud
And we tried to call it home
But we weren't alright, not at all
Not for one, for one, for one second"
This makes me think of drugs, trudging through the mud makes me think of heroin. People say heroin users have "muddy veins" and users always think that they are fine and have things under control but they really don't. Watch Spun with Brittany Murphy (RIP) for an example.

    "You showed me how
You seemed to find a hole"
Teaching someone how/injecting them with the drug heroin (or possibly something else, but this is most common.

"But I just laughed and smiled
    Begged and rolled my eyes
    Even cried"
Also another heroin reference, to start with you feel good and happy when you're on a drug high, but then you start getting out of it, hence the eye roll. As for the crying, coming down is not a very nice feeling but what goes up must come down.

"And denied the truth to you
Just like the truth to me
    Mostly lied"
I would say this is about him lying to those around him, possibly also himself.

"White it out like glittering wax butterflies"
I get a few things from this, white makes me think of cocaine and it can be pretty expensive hence th glittering, ie riches. Or it could be saying that you want to cover something up, and white out does tend to be quiet shiny.

Love this song, have the above line tattooed on my ribs.

General Comment:I think this may be about the holocaust. Or maybe a fictional detention camp of some sort. Or maybe the Japanese detention camps in the US. Who knows.

General Comment:this is a soft song compaired to what I listen to, because I listen to alot of death metal, but I think this song means, that since Bert was always to strung up on drugs he could never write his ideas for music down, but now, being in this band can be his release and, he can write the music, and do what he loves(:

General Comment:To me this song could be about a few things but im going for the relationship view.

maybe memories to me implies alot in its self

"as we trudge along through the mud
and we tried to call it home
but we weren't all right, not at all
    not for one second "

havent but their heart into it. home=heart.still denying whatever.and everything wasnt ok.

"never have we been one to write it down
    now i think i can
    i know I'm stronger now
    who's looking south
    not me I'm looking back
I'm done denying the truth to anyone
    cause I'm alive "

not writing it down means not expressing it.for whatever reason.but NOW they can.not looking south=down.looking back and coming clean.just saying how they feel.cause im alive- wanting to live for lifes sake obviously.

    "you showed me how
you seemed to find a hole
but i just laughed and smiled
    begged and rolled my eyes
    even cried and
    dnied the truth to you
just like the truth to me
    mostly lied "

you showed me how. you seemed to find a hole=finding the solution and problem.then the whole rain of emotions they been through.appears they both did some lying.

"I'm not going to look back "

    =back to because im alive.

white it out like glittering wax butterflies

this im not sure of. wax on butterflies to me seems to be about putting something fake on top of something real.and they are going to white it out. maybe eliminate the whole relationship. start again with the truth. stop lying to themselves and each other.see if they keep trudging through the crap.

General Comment:alright so first of all let me say this:
THE USED IS AMAZING! I LOVE THEM! THEY ARE THE BEST BAND EVER!
    =D

    and...
    song meaning...

    1st verse-
"as we trudge along through the mud
and we tried to call it home
but we weren't all right, not at all
    not for one second "

i think he's just talking about how they had really hard times when the band started (homelessness, drug/alcohol abuse...)

    2nd verse-
"never have we been one to write it down
    now i think i can
    i know I'm stronger now
    who's looking south
    not me I'm looking back
I'm done denying the truth to anyone
    cause I'm alive "

is just that before THE USED he didnt think he was strong enough to face it... (write it down) but now he thinks he's stronger because of all the things he's been through and now he can face it, and not look back in shame at what he did and that he's just genuinley happy to be alive right now...

    3-
    "you showed me how
you seemed to find a hole
but i just laughed and smiled
    begged and rolled my eyes
    even cried and
    dnied the truth to you
just like the truth to me
    mostly lied "

is about how people showed how to live different, all the tears shed (probably during intervention) and how at first he couldnt co-operate, and how he lied to people and how he lied to himself.
    yes.

"i'm not going to look back"
    what i said before...

"white it out like glittering wax blutterflies"
face it so it gets releived or goes away.

    =]

    yeah.

General Comment:This song is the best song on their new live cd/dvd, cause they throw in a part of Refused's "New Noise" in. It's fucking bomb.
