yeah, what a posted before was probably something like "this song is not about LSD. it's about a picture john's son brought home that he drew of his school friend lucy. it was lucy, in the sky, with diamonds. john didn't realize it was an acronym for LSD until *after* he wrote it." okay. now everyone knows.

Heh. Sure. I believe that. These guys were known for BSing... I've seen some videotaped interviews them where some of the comments they made were just hysterical. That line is typical of Lennon's creations. This song is all about drugs.

My point was that John said that a number of his songs were drug related (Cold Turkey, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Tomorrow Never Knows etc.). Why would he lie on this one song. He always seemed like a fairly truthful person in life...maybe this is his 'joke' to Beatle fans...

Anyone who thinks John's not clever enough to come up with an alibi like this must not be a true fan or in denial. Anyway, I think this song was made before they were ready to be open about their drug experimentation. Think about the psychadelic imagery in the damn song and the L.S.D. initials become a pretty BIG coincidence! P.S. To song4julia and strwberryf1ds: If that's all you have to say, STAY THE HELL OFF THIS SITE! Who's with me?

Yeah. They weren't open about it around the time of LHCB. Sure they weren't open about drugs. Yeah, okay, right. They were pretty damn open about it...

john's son julian came home from school one day with a watercolor. his sons had drew a picture of his friend lucy flying through the night sky. the diamonds are stars and lucy is literally in the sky with the diamonds. now the rest of the lyrics might have been written ON lsd but not ABOUT lsd. "plasticine porters with looking glass ties", "rockinghorse people eat marshmallow pies", "tangerine trees and marmalade skies", etc. not inspired by lsd but may have been written on lsd

retsyn may be right guys. it doesn't seem to me that lennon had any reason to keep drug use in the dark. i've gotta blieve that maybe this song was written when on lsd and not (wholeheartedly) about lsd.

a good reason to keep it in the dark would be that drug use wasnt socially accepted in the 60s, just like it isnt now. he prolly just wanted people who could connect with him to get it. to everyone else... they didnt need to know. so if any of the conservative americans made a fuss, what could they do?? there's no proof, just press comments that wrap around eachother and lead to nothing. BiteMe, i guess i'd have to say i agree with you... and by the way, nice try at inspiring an uprising... yea... that backfired. So basically this is an AWESOME SONG, whether you take it to be about drugs or not. personally i think it would be wonderful if you could get to a world like this without drugs... i guess john kinda does that with this song. ok said to much, later
