(This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The bleeding part could be used for a drug reference. The drugs that put you on the streets generally are used through a syringe. When you do drugs through a syringe you have to pull back blood. or If the song is about sex, then it could refer to losing her virginity.
I am not really SURE if this is what this song is about, this is just MY take on it. I have been at these points in life , so that is how I relate this song to such things.

it's about how you meet someone so beautiful/fucked-up n' you feel that you might be falling in love with them but you don't want to be in love with them cause you're afraid that you'll get hurt like you've been in your past relationship. it's a really sad song but definetly worth the listen, very-very good.
