Obviously not that obvious. It's not just about MTV... it's about how the media ruins every subculture/musical movement through commercialising something and then selling it back at us, think postmodernism. MTV is used as an example of that, like an ebodyment. Look at the punk movement, and where it has ended up now; all these stupid half-assed pop-punk bands that are about as political as a cabbage.

No matter how many records people will release , no matter how many guitar riffs are written, no matter how many lyrics are peiced together over who knows how many hours at a time MTV will allways sabatoge whatever they can get their hands on to drive the mainstream wedge into the subcultures we all create, and live.

We as music listeners should BOYCOTT MTV for exploiting our subcultures into the mainstream.......Ie......GREEN DAY .....SUM 41....BLINK 182 all considered "punk" at one time.....no their punk reputations lie in the ashes created by their mainstreasm success.......

in my opinion, MTV screws every band that comes on there. its especially bad when that certain band moves to TRL. that's where all bands totally lose it. and i think that's why no one really listens to them anymore. MTV blows! i agree with tallman_al. all MTV wants is the money, they don't care if a band makes it, all their concerned about is the pay off 4 the so called "promotion" they think their doing 4 the band.

yea they do screw everyband that they show on mtv and really overplay shit im gonna kill myself if i flip through the channels and hear eminems dumbfuck song i never watched and never will watch mtv

they also, seems to me, that they tell kids how to live their life. how to dress how to like a certan kind of music ect. and there fucking dumb enough to do it! good job for DK to write this song

dude, i can't tell you how many times i've been flipping through channels and i hear that stupid eminem song when i pass mtv. i hate that so much. they overplay every song. and that's why the song loses its touch.

and i agree with you. they do tell kids how to dress and what music to listen to and stuff like that. and it really pisses me off. they just want more people watching their shows. they don't care if the band makes it, all they care about is the money.

hmm... the dead kennedys are a great (my favorite) band. it's no surprise that they would write a song about mtv, such an easy target, but that it was written in '85. i'm not sure when mtv was founded (early 80's?) but it didn't take long for dk to see what it would do to modern music as we know it...
