Hush now, don't you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over or has it just begun?
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly you hear and see
This magic new dimension
I will be watching over you
I am gonna help you see it through
I will protect you in the night
I am smiling next to you, in silent lucidity
(Visualize your dream)
(Record it in the present tense)
(Put it into a permanent form)
(If you persist in your efforts)
(You can achieve dream control)
(Dream control)
(How are we feeling today, better?)
(Dream control, dream control, dream control)
(Help me)
If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You're safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but
I will be watching over you
I am gonna help to see it through
I will protect you in the night
I am smiling next to you
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life

many people might say this song is about dreams, which i guess is correct.
to me, this song is about embracing death. not so much as in a BOC "Don't Fear The Reaper" kind of way.
it's about crossing over. i always regarded death more as just a prolonged sleep, the events of your life flickering like a film strip before your eyes.
this song could even be regarded as a message, from those who have gone before us, that there is nothing to fear, no pain. and that they are waiting on the other side to guide us.
This song grabbed me immediately the first time I heard it, which was quite recently. My son and I always shared a love of music, bringing things to each other to rave about them and enjoy. We even had a "song" which had seen us through a hard time and meant a lot to both of us. He had it played at his wedding, when we danced the mother/groom dance.

He committed suicide, almost three years ago, at only 27. This is not the first time that I felt he reached out to me through music. In each instance, my exposure to the particular song was so random that I felt he had to have a hand in getting them in front of me. I am in pain every day, and I know I will be forever. But I really do think you hit the nail on the head, about it being a reach out from those who've gone before us, letting us know they'll be with us every day.
@roger wilco it's both really ... it's about coping with the death of someone close to you, by keeping them in your dreams through the literal concept of lucid dreaming.
