Lyrics for Silent Lucidity as interpreted by Boonechic_21

Silent Lucidity Lyrics
Hush now don't you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over or has it just begun

There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly you hear and see
This magic new dimension
I-will be watching over you
I-I'm gonna help you see it though
I-will protect you in the night
I-I'm smiling next to you in silent lucidity

If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
The walls you build within come tumbling down
And a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You're safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of Illusion can you realize
Your dream's alive you can be the guide but
(I) will be watching over you
(I) I'm gonna help you see it though
(I) will protect you in the night
(I) I'm smiling next to you

I used to have a recurring nightmare about death. I'd wake up every night and start crying. I had abusive parents and used to hide behind my bedroom door at night. My family thought very little of me. I became what they saw in me. By doing so, I became a master of illusion. A caring man with very special gifts let me know that I am never alone. He helped me to see that I can overcome this tragedy in my life, but I need to break down the walls I built within me and learn to trust him. Lucid dreams helped me to learn dream control and when I confront danger in my dreams I fly like a bird. He helped me to realize that my life dreams can become a reality. There is a message in the middle of the song where you here me crying out for help, my step-father's yelling "How dare you do that!", my mother states "Jack don't!", my father asks "What's that?" and my brother says "Don't be stupid!" My name is mentioned several times. This song is about my life.

many people might say this song is about dreams, which i guess is correct.

to me, this song is about embracing death. not so much as in a BOC "Don't Fear The Reaper" kind of way.

it's about crossing over. i always regarded death more as just a prolonged sleep, the events of your life flickering like a film strip before your eyes.

this song could even be regarded as a message, from those who have gone before us, that there is nothing to fear, no pain. and that they are waiting on the other side to guide us.

We may lose our loved ones to Death, but they will always be right next to us in Spirit.

I first heard this song sung by a girl at a karaoke bar. Someone whispered to me while she was singing, "She's got AIDS, yknow." The song meant even more to me then.

Incredible.

This song's about lucid dreaming (when you are know you are dreaming, and thus if you don't wake yourself up you can control your dream).

Agreed this song is one of the best. It was the first song/band that I heard an orchestra played behind a Rock band. I was touched, and with this song, I'm encouraged that life is a beautiful thing.

I always thought this song was about a mother and her child...and the hardships they endure?

Esenthiel's right. This song is entirely about experiencing a lucid dream. All the lyrics refer to it. In short, lucid dreaming is when you realize, within your own dream, that you are dreaming. When that happens, you can literally take control of your own dream and do with it what you want. I've experienced a few of these myself, although I don't study it as much as most people. It's quite an interesting experience. Within a dream, you can literally do whatever you want. "The walls you built within come tumbling down and a new world will begin."

apparently vh1 called this song one of the worst metal songs of all time. just 'cause the song was performed by a metal group doesn't mean it's metal, and besides it's so lovely and majestic.

The lucid dreaming interpretations above are of course correct. Guitarist Chris DeGarmo said to Kerrang! Magazine in June 1990: "'Silent Lucidity' is probably one of the most genuinely out there things we've ever done. It's about what they call 'lucid dreaming'. Or 'dream-control'. Basically, just opening up the doors to your subconscious mind, and learning how to master your dreams. Actually be able to steer and control them."

Dig deeper people. Mastering dream control is but a baby step on the road life's unfolding. Break down the illusions you hold about the nature of existence, and find out the true breadth of dream control - for life IS the dream. The song details the early stages in the process of manifesting your dreams within reality.

Okay, so its about lucid dreaming, but who is the "I" in the verses:

(I) will be watching over you
(I) I'm gonna help you see it though
(I) will protect you in the night
(I) I'm smiling next to you

to Zenwizard, the (I) on the song is You-yourself...it's like a belief that all things have positive and negative; that in Physics, everything exist with it's counterpart and in Religion there's always the Good and the Evil...
it's the same here; will you take the good- you or the bad- you... you want to live a fulfiiled life or a loser life... are you want to live in fear or live bravery...i'm smiling next o you,,,,

Personally... I grew up listening to this song. It has alot of sentalmental value.

I always thought it ment that when we get hurt in life we can get past it by acting as if it didn't really happend. As if it were a dream. Dreams can't hurt you, because they never really happend. And if you go inside this "dream" your able to look at the situation for what it really is and get past it to move on to bigger and better things.

I perseaved this song as a person giving this advice to the other person. As if they were helping them threw troubled times. And telling them to trust them and they will look out for them.

Now I have a different view considering I didn't know anything about Lucid dreaming before I read the comments above. In a way I think it is refering to "Lucid Dreaming" as a base for the mental stability of the song, but as for a metaphorical view I find my orignal idea to fit.

Actually, "ZERO", you are a little "off".

The middle segment is...

Visualize your dream
Record it in the present tense
Put it into a permanent form
If you persist in your efforts
You can achieve dream control

It is followed by "How are we feeling today, better?" and "Help Me!"(sounding gasped) from "Hellbound: Hellraiser II".

This is what i think the somg is about. keep in mind that its jsut IMHO.

There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night(the doorway/place he likes to hide is LSD)
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared(the ''child'' watch him tripping and got scared)
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly you hear and see
This magic new dimension
(if u have ever tripped acid, then you know that all of this can happen while tripping)
I-will be watching over you
I-I'm gonna help you see it though
I-will protect you in the night
(he will trip sit you)
I-I'm smiling next to you in silent lucidity
(Hes next to u smiling, hes tripping along with you and hes in a state of silent lucidity)
If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
The walls you build within come tumbling down
And a new world will begin
(the first time u trip acid it changes ur mind, u think of everything differently aka ''a new world will begin'')
Living twice at once you learn
(this is the best description of acid. whenever i trip i always think that i am living life at 10x. every moment is much more...well u just have to trip to understand)
You're safe from pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
(''a round trip journey in ur head''? yeah thats acid in a nut shell)
Master of Illusion can you realize
(on acid i have been able to control the color of the sky, and adjust light levels at will aka ''master of illusion'')
Your dream's alive you can be the guide but
(ur wildest dreams can come alive on acid)
(I) will be watching over you
(I) I'm gonna help you see it though
(I) will protect you in the night
(I) I'm smiling next to you

It's simple, LUCID DREAMING. Back in the day when I did LSD I thought every song lyric pointed somehow to an acid trip. I did acid several times back in 1990 and eventually had three bad trips in a row. I ended up having to go into counselling to deal with the anxiety attacks that resulted as an after effect of the drug. I was put on an anti-anxiety medication but I was'nt allowed to stay on it for too long on account of it being addictive. As a result the anxiety returned. I went into a book store shortly there after and bought Stephen Leberge's book LUCID DREAMING. I learned how to induce lucid dreams, overcome my nightmares and as a result my anxiety went away without medication. Around that time Silent Lucidity was playing on the radio and the video was on MTV. It was like conformation to me that my life was back on track. I love this song. It has a spiritual quality for me. Live Light, Live Lucid.

I can just relate to this song... it's a wonderful song.

"Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life"

Funny how that happens, huh? Actually, it isn't funny at all...
