Kaleidoscope of love
Ophidian's dance as the shifting occurs
We are stars and electric animals
Nurtured by the mothers of prostitutes

Floating in a mushroom universe,
Swimming in a sea of cyclostomes,
And as we surface in through the tide,
You open up and I come inside

I must be in limbo
Cause purgatory's always felt just like home
And as the world spins round and round
We fornicate upon the cotton clouds
That rain down sulfur smiles on the children at play in the poppy fields

Sinking for what seems like forever,
Like Atlantis into the sea,
To forget the shore and wash away,
Wash away my memory

I must be in limbo
Cause purgatory's always felt just like home
Inside the moon lives the high priest of the mushroom cult
Upon the altar are the ashes of the Pharisees
I sold my soul, sold my soul, sold my soul away
I'm free of guilt free of sin free of everything

Lalalalalalala

Inside the moon lives the high priest of the mushroom cult
Upon the altar are the ashes of the Pharisees
I sold my soul, sold my soul, sold my soul away
I'm free of guilt free of sin free of everything

General Comment:having been a part of the mushroom cultivation community I can tell you I believe this song is related to the fact that this community has become almost like a cult...believing that mushrooms are a tool to connect with god and that all people would be better off using psychedelic drugs

I used to push these views myself and while I maintain that god reached out to me through these drugs what most don't understand is that choice is not made void and intentions and perceptions of the drugs themselves play a huge role in the experience

"You open up and I come inside"

imo this is a description of how evil/demons/satan can take control and deceive using mushrooms(and the culture tied to it)

it seems as tho whoever wrote the song fell into this trap of lies which I had once fallen into myself...it presents itself as pure truth(the experience and the community) but in reality it contains both lies and truth as all other things in this reality(and does not void choice either)

the name mushroom cult itself represents mushroom cultivation/mushroom culture and the fact that the community tied to these mushrooms has become very cult like with its leader being psychedelics drugs which they have made into an idol

General Comment:Clearly, and agreeably, the song is about mushrooms and religion; however, the question is: how do these two ideas relate?

John Marco Allegro, in his book 'The End of the Road', proposes a theory interconnecting mushrooms and Christianity, declaring that modern Christianity arose from the mushroom cult. Id est, a cult that depended upon the inhaling of psychoactive mushrooms, thus bringing onto oneself a 'closeness' to God. Furthermore, he declares that Jesus was the manifestation of 'amanita muscaria' -- a type of mushroom.

'I must be in limbo / Cause purgatory's always felt just like home / Inside the moon lives the high priest of the mushroom cult / Upon the altar are the ashes of the Pharisees / I sold my soul, sold my soul, sold my soul away / I'm free of guilt free of sin free of everything'

Firstly, the chorus beings with two references to Roman Catholicism, telling of how the narrator must be in 'limbo', a place where those who are non-purified go to become fit for heaven, in place of baptism. Baptism, in itself, is a way of purifying -- a sort of way to relinquish oneself of past and future sins. Thus, Because the narrator has yet to be baptised, the line 'Purgatory's always felt just like home.' He then goes further to say 'Inside the moon lives the high priest of the mushroom cult', suggesting that the belief systems of the people in this cult, 'the pharisee' [a sect that appeared during the intertestamental period; it is interesting to note that this is when the members would have to been inhaling the psychotropic to be able to conjure the symbol that is Christ], which is also the foundations of the Christian religion, are desensitizing themselves on these mushrooms. Because of the mushroom cult, the narrator feels as if he is 'free of guilt; free of sin; free of everything.'

General Comment:Can you say drugs? System themselves don't do drugs, at least, other than Daron, so it's probably a sort of protest song of sorts.

    General Comment:Kaleidoscope of love
    -changing love, conditional love

Ophidian's dance as the shifting occurs
-snakes imply presence of evil, giver of love is playing in the darkness

We are stars and electric animals
Nurtured by the mothers of prostitutes
-We are raised 'molded' into whatever the giver of love wants us to be, needless to say they have have selfish motivators

**giver of love I think is the Church**
    -------------------------------------------------------
    Floating in a mushroom universe,
Swimming in a sea of cyclostomes,
-Lost in an over expanding universe full of others trying to suck you dry

And as we surface in through the tide,
You open up and I come inside
    - tide is a repeating cycle that we have no control over, like the 'cycle' of life, he goes inside death (read: heaven, hell religion etc)
    ------------------------------------------------
    I must be in limbo
Cause purgatory's always felt just like home
-He must on the edge of hell or heaven since he isn't paying for any sins, also undermining purgatory since he has already went through that on Earth - but wait isn't only God supposed to punish the sinners, it would be wrong to judge fellow humans while still on earth now wouldn't it? ... think you guys know what I mean

And as the world spins round and round
We fornicate upon the cotton clouds
That rain down sulfur smiles on the children at play in the poppy fields
    - Now we're in heaven fucking and all of our 'sins' are pouring down on the innocent, but really how innocent are they, I mean they are controlled by the 'givers of love' who allow them to play in poppy fields. Fields are known to contain opium OR represent those fallen during battle. Yup drugs and killing each other, this is where we allow children to play.
    -------------------
Sinking for what seems like forever,
    Like Atlantis into the sea,
To forget the shore and wash away,
    Wash away my memory

    - The shore is where he first went into heaven brought there by the givers of love, he would rather find a way to say in the sea forever to escape the 'givers of love'
    ---------------------------------------
Inside the moon lives the high priest of the mushroom cult
Upon the altar are the ashes of the Pharisees
-The 'high priest' pope or whatever other word your religion uses to describe such a position, lives inside the moon ie: these people use the never ending cycle of life and death to scare/control you (like the cycle of the tides controlled by the sun and moon). Pharisees :hypocritically self-righteous person has their ashes before the alter ie: symbol of religion the fake man dies before his fake symbol - it doesn't change just how fake he really is. People using religion as an excuse for ill actions.

I sold my soul, sold my soul, sold my soul away
I'm free of guilt free of sin free of everything
    Lalalalalalala
-They use the fear of your eternal soul in order to control, rid yourselves of this silly belief and they can't touch you with their petty religion.

    --------------------------------------------------------
This song is about religion, how they TRY to control us out of fear. I mean common how many religious people do you all know who are any more moral then the rest of us. It's a pathetic front put up by religious people so they can feel better about fucking 18 year old girls while their wives aren't around (or other equally wrong acts).

General Comment:Kaleidoscope of love - Ofc a kaleidoscope is a little mirror thing that distorts light (reality) when u look into it so this probably either refers to drugs or religion (both?) that they distort love.

Nurtured by the mothers of prostitutes- As Im_Iranian already pointed out this could refer to things are not as perfect as they seem to be. Mothers -- people who are trying to affect u, are not what they make themselves out to be and their white lies are not to protect you.

Floating in a mushroom universe, Swimming in a sea of cyclostomes. -- Cyclostomes are as you surely know animals without jaws or teeth very primitive animals and have a sucking mouth. Floating in a mushroom universe could be a world on drugs (or religion alt. distorted ideals) and a sea of cyclostomes could be people/groups who are trying to use you, leach on you. Such as, Gues what! RELIGION.

Cause purgatory's always felt just like home - Purgatory is when the soul has to explain his/hers sins (Roman catholic). So we have it clear hes a sinner.

We fornicate upon the cotton clouds- Fornicate means to have sex without being married.
That rain down sulfur smiles on the children at play in the poppy fields. Janesa it's sulfur-smiles and if u play in the poppy field u take drugs. So the text might be refering to the dubble moral in the kristian political view. Being sarcastic that sex without permission from the church creates more heavy sins like drugs and murder. This is a official point of view of the catholic church, this being now that intimate actions without the permission of the church (this gives church hella power) destroys society (people belive 'em cuz... They are the chruch! they cant be wrong!).
I should really rewrite this so it makes more sence but hell, its the internet.
