And if you save yourself,
You will make him happy!
He'll keep you in a jar,
And you'll think you're happy...
He'll give you breathing holes,
And you'll think you're happy...
He'll cover you with grass,
And you'll think you're happy... now!

You're in a laundry room,
You're in a laundry room,
Conclusion came to you, ohhh.

And if you cut yourself,
You will think you're happy!
He'll keep you in a jar,
Then you'll make him happy...
He'll give you breathing holes,
Then you'll think you're happy...
He'll cover you with grass,
Then you'll think you're happy... now!

You're in a laundry room,
You're in a laundry room,
Conclusion came to you, ohhh.

You're in a laundry room,
You're in a laundry room,
Conclusion came to you, ohhh.

And if you fool yourself,
You will make him happy!
He'll keep you in a jar,
Then you'll think you're happy...
He'll give you breathing holes,
Then you will seem happy...
You'll wallow in the shit,
Then you'll think you're happy... now!

You're in a laundry room,
You're in a laundry room,
You're in a laundry room,
Conclusion came to you, ohhh...

General Comment:i have always listened to this song and like others have already mentioned , believed it to be about god.

    And if you save yourself
    You will make him happy
He'll keep you in a jar
    And you'll think you're happy
    He'll give you breathing holes
    And you'll think you're happy
    He'll cover you with grass
And you'll think you're happy now

says to me that we are only here to keep god happy , yes we are provided with everything we need to survive (breathing holes) and because this life is all we know we think we are happy . but not everyone enjoys life , to me this is summed up by the final verse .... and if you fool your self you will make him happy.Towards the end the depression got worse and the lyrics seem darker.

You're really in a laundry room
You're really in a laundry room
The clue just came to you, oh

this implies somewhere dull , uninviting and generally a place you wouldnt want to live.

the closest i can put it is that we are all like a bug kept in a jar,
you might feed it and provide everything it could need but it will never be truly happy. The jar is earth and our keeper is god.

this is only my interpretation and i wouldnt be at all suprised if it was totally wrong .

My Interpretation:Why has nobody commented on this song? It's a great song! Anyway, my interpretation of it is staying in a relationship with someone who doesn't treat you well.

"He'll keep you in a jar, then you'll think you're happy" He'll trap you and confine you, but you'll think you're happy because you're in "love."

"He'll give you breating holes, then you will seem happy" He'll give you a small portion of time alone, and you'll think that everything is going well.

"You're in a laundry room, Conclusion came to you" You're in a practical state of mind (for once) and you realize you're being neglected.

That's just what I get out of it, but everybody interprets things differently. Especially when it comes to Kurt Cobain.

General Comment:Someone might have already mentioned this, since I have not read the comments, but I think it's about an outside perspective of "God".

So Cobain could have been thinking, "Hey, what if God is a little kid with a jar, and we are all those insects that He wants to make happy so He's happy too?".

Think that we're little crickets or ants (weak creatures), trapped in a jar (life) with holes poked in so that we can breathe (religion, or that little faith we can barely experience here, while there is a world outside of the "jar" full of this "oxygen" or God's faith, love, or whatever you want to call it) and we're owned by this selfish little boy (God) who takes happiness in seeing you suffer and dig your way out of the grass (problems) you've been covered in. Then, of course, we continue to praise this boy for "saving us" for keeping us in this "jar" when in reality we have "saved ourselves" (see first line) and go on to conform Him and make Him happy.

What I'm clueless about is what this "laundry room" where the "jar" rests is.. is it the whole Universe? Does the "jar" actually signify Earth, and the laundry room is the Universe? Maybe..

That goes on to show the actual darkness and uselessness of a God who makes people "happy" so He's happy.

General Comment:It's a simple metaphor showing kurt's feminism. It's about a girl in a relationship where she does what the guy tells her and it seems nice and fine and she think's she happy. "you're in a laundry room" literally means the girl is in a laundry room doing laundry. He's talking about how women are treated, basically like pets of the guys, pets that do laundry and make lunch. He's talking to the women saying "you're a pet, and you think you're happy, but you're doing laundry, and you'll realize you're not happy, you're sad."

the conclusion came to you, oh...

General Comment:okay... this song is about capitalism (higher classes controlling the lower classes)
'him' are the employers, people from the capitalist society and he is talking about how we keep in line, try to keep happy so you can go back to working your ass off, making them money.
'keep you in a job and youll think your happy' - people in western society believe that being happy is having a job/money
the laundry lines (i think) are about when he was washing his clothes for work and he realised all of this equality.
breathing holes - money in order to survive (while they live 'amazing' lives)

I COULD GO ON FOR HOURS BUT I DONT THINK PEOPLE WILL READ THIS IF IT IS TOO LONG

General Comment:Sappy,is definately written about organized religion. He was explaining the mindset of a person who has faith and lives under someone elses jurisdiction and realizes its all bull shit.In a way, expressing how we have no idea of our purpose. In all religions the are rules... You controll your enviorment in a particular order as you are told. You are brain washed, with your head stuck in church and the bible or whatever .this is the jar and the process of saving yourself. You do all this to make who ever gave you life happy, but really your not happy. But you think you are because your left ignorant of anything else outside this jar.eventually you begin to wise up.and its concluded you arent apart of anything special.just a laundry room.a laundry room a place where you clean dirty clothes.Your just in an organazation to wear clean clothes,to have a clean image for the rest of the world.to be just like everyone else.weak and scared.andd in denial.

General Comment:I think its talking about God and the connection we "have" with him....when he says "you'll make "him" happy"...and then when you kill yourself "you" will think your happy...it doesn't make him "god" happy ....,the jar could be us on earth and the breathing holes could be our nostrils......the grass is the food ....and you are in a laundry room could be that we are just spinning around ...the conclusion came to you is realizing how imprisoned we are...I don't know ....
