This song is saying that the people who are poor and live in rural farm areas, who's babies are starving to death, are still holding on to their belief in a higher power, even when their beliefs are what's causing their problem. Their belief keeps them trapped in a viscious cycle, and causes them to remain thinking in the box, hence the title, 1000 more fools. These fools teach their children the same ideas, that to think foryourself is a crime, and if they think for themselves, they need need to pray for their wrongdoings. these people belive that love from above will save them.

I am sorry to regret that the part about the not thinking Christians has become quite aparent in churches today. These non-thoughtful Christians of today I admit run away to their Churches when they come up against an argument that attacks their beliefs. But these churches are not being biblical. Christians were once on the forfront of thought. Think of the major universities: Harvard, Oxford, Yale... All were began by Christians. And take for instance the greatest commandment in the Bible is to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your MIND." So if one looks at Christianity one would think that they have no reasons for their faith. This is quite the contrary. They have many reasons even though they seem like "fools".

I think this song is about the disparity between many religous people's beliefs and the reality of the world around them. The point seems to be that these people are mired in willful ignorance with their heads up in the clouds, and meanwhile the world is burning around them. It's almost as if he's saying that they use religion as a drug to escape reality...

This song is about children who grow up in christian homes(like myself) although i turned out agnostic. But it's about children who grow up in christian homes to become christian parents and raise christian children, hence let the diseased cycle continue, but they never had a chance(1000 more fools). hennessee101, i agree that a lot just go run to their churches when their faced with an argument that attacks their faith. But it seems the only thing they have to go on for their religion is blind faith. Because there is no vestige of god in world or an existance of the above.

This song is not restricted to any specific setting or area, but to all Christians everywhere who have forgotten (or never knew) how to use their minds, or think for themselves and come up with their own reasons for why they believe in God. Rather, they use Christianity as a crutch and leave their mind crippled, trapped inside a box, until they grow up and get married and have children and pass their beliefs and mindlessness onto them, giving birth to more and more and more brainwashed fools to pervert the minds of more and more people without knowing WHY. Of course, they do not need justification of argument, because they have the ultimate reason for why their God is real: the Bible says so, and that in itself is enough for them. Think beyond this, and then you're doubting your religion and going to go to Hell. Kudos to whoever used the term "vicious cycle."

Don't try to find meaning in this fucking song. These lyrics seriously make me cringe when I read them, it's such an embarrassing attempt to sound deep and poetic.

I was wrong when I said most Bad Religion lyrics are pretentious bullshit. Some of them are though, and this is one of the worst (along with I Want Something More).

I want something more is so short i never payed much attention to it. but this song has good meaning but they have NEVER SAID they wanted to be poetic. THEY HAVE SAID that they wasnted to make good punk music that made people think, and this song does a good job of it.

this band and Pink Floyd i think have the best lyrics of all time...
