Lyrics for I Want To Conquer The World as interpreted by oofus

I Want To Conquer The World Lyrics
Hey Brother Christian with your high and might errand,
Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying.
Hey Sister Bleeding Heart with all of your compassion,
Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation.
Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure,
Can you improve this place with the data that you gather?
Hey Mother Mercy can your loins bear fruit forever?
Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure?
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all my decisions
With a quick wink of the eye
And a "God you must be joking!"
Hey Mr. Diplomat with your worldly aspirations,
Did you see the children cry when you left them at the station?
Hey moral soldier you've got righteous proclamation,
And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations.
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all of my decisions
I want to conquer the world,
Expose the culprits and feed them to the children,
I'll do away with air pollution and then all save the whales,
We'll have peace on earth and global communion.
I want to conquer the world! (x4)

I love this song.
When I first heard this band I didn't care for them
But as I started listening to the lyrics
I grew to like them more and more.
Now they happen to be one of my favorite bands.

I believe the quote by Lord Acton is a great way to describe this song:
"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Basically, the song is sung from some one who is not in power, therefore, he has the best of intentions if he were given that authority - he'd save the wales, and create peace on earth.

Unfortunately, when someone DOES have that power, they don't waste their time helping the greater good or doing those things they promise.

I believe the song is quite a satire on Political races. The canidates will say what everone wants to hear, but never actually do those things, had they the power.

Everybody listed in the song considers themselves fighting for the greater good (religion). The chorus is poking fun at their beliefs, because you can't conquer the world and promote equality in all of your decisions. It's a contradiction, because not everyone is going to agree with your decisions. Generally anyone who says they can fix these problems is lying. The bridge sounds like it's coming from the prospective of the writer of the song saying instead of trying to bring everyone to his way of thinking, he'd promote global communion.

"Promote equality in all my decisions

if yur gonna put things into context and analyze, this is where to begin.

self-rightous people have these panaceas they come up with and.. its ridiculous...it wont work...

its showing the ignorance of perspectives..even the ones with good intentions..

and alot of the song could be just lashing out...

but ones who are so ambitious.. even though its impossible...if they could do these tasks would result in many of the same problems.

theyre deep meaning in this song im not sure i understand.

I think it's about people who have fixed ideologies and think that their way is "the way" and if they could conquer the world they would set things right. others have commented that its a pessimistic song because you'll fail trying to fix things and that's right but i think its also used to attack people with dogmatic beliefs, be they right or left, religious or secular, or whatever. one of the best BR songs!

As far as I know, the verse describes all the people he thinks have tried to improve the world but their idealism has ended with them either hindering progress or actively hurting it. IE religion and science and compassion and righteous war try to make the world a better place, and they just end up ruining more lives, getting bogged down in details, mollycoddling people without fixing their problems, and just plain getting people killed.

The chorus is mocking that kind of "fix the world" idealism, that it will be as easy as putting an end to poverty "with a quick wink of the eye".

So the verse describes the people that the chorus imitates and mocks.

I don't know where I read it, but I read a quote from Greg Graffin about this song, something like
"A jarhead came up to me one performance, after we ended with this song, and his eyes were bright and he was enthusiastic, telling me 'Yeah man I feel exactly the same way!' and I just couldn't believe he was that oblivious"

What I think it means is that stupid people who just want to take over the world to create wars and neglect to small contries but really the song is saying what NEEDS to be done.
