Lyrics for I Want To Conquer The World as interpreted by oofus

I Want To Conquer The World Lyrics
Hey Brother Christian with your high and might errand,
Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying.
Hey Sister Bleeding Heart with all of your compassion,
Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation.
Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure,
Can you improve this place with the data that you gather?
Hey Mother Mercy can your loins bear fruit forever?
Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure?
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all my decisions
With a quick wink of the eye
And a "God you must be joking!"
Hey Mr. Diplomat with your worldly aspirations,
Did you see the children cry when you left them at the station?
Hey moral soldier you've got righteous proclamation,
And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations.
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all of my decisions
I want to conquer the world,
Expose the culprits and feed them to the children,
I'll do away with air pollution and then all save the whales,
We'll have peace on earth and global communion.
I want to conquer the world! (x4)

i think this song has multi-meanings and we can argue forever about what the lyrics mean and never really find out. what matters the most is that this song is great and you can find the meaning that best fits you.

This song is obviously a joke. it describes a fantasy that the author has (brett or greg). We all know that there is problems in the world that can't be fixed. And even if you tried to fix them a dictatorship won't help. it'll create more problems. The song is also not an assault on God. It's just a point of view. In my opinion everyone has there own god. Doesen't have to be the christian God. But everyone has one. Whether athiest or not. Some people worship money, or even themselves

This song may be a joke, but it also says a lot about the world we live in today with a small ammount of words. I think it is very clever.

Some you folks are taking this song all wrong.

The lyrics in the chorus are sarcastic. This song is basically criticizing idealists of all walks of life in there belief that they can "conquer the world"

I wonder though, could it be that he's reflecting on how everything is so bad, and noone seems to have the wrong way to fix everything.

in desperation, I know I've looked at the world completely exasperated and decided I just want to conquer the world and make everything good.

but its not the right way, it won't work, I think the realization, is the similarity between them wanting to do everything right and him wanting to do that same thing.

To whoever said process of belief is BR's best. Try Suffer or No Control.

I agree with Avarant.Everyone seems to have all the intentions but doing everything wrong to fix the problem. But think about it.What if we conqured the world? We already know what mistakes not to make and we know what's right.Take the out our leaders filled with greed and let's do something about it!

Great song, and I agree with Dogsweat and Avarant for the most part, though I don't feel every leader is filled with greed lol.

mr. brett said this is one of his most misunderstood songs and everyone who talks to him about it has no clue as to what it's about.

Amazing lyrics. Well written. The entire band (less the vocals) is bloody amazing. But the volcalist seems to be completely for just cutting off the ends of phrases and really gross tuning....But I think with a different singer it would be good...actually with Maynard from Tool I think it would be amazing...

wow, vampirella, I could not possibly disagree with you more.

you have to remember this is punkrock, not .. well whatever Tool is classified as now (I know they were metal, but they seem to have transcended that genre sort of)

Personally I think of Greg as one of the most brilliant lyricists and one of the best vocalists punk has ever had. (Jason Cruz from Strung Out too)

Best song on No Control, and one of BR's overall best, anyone who said Process of... is BR's best is a fucking idiot...88-93 was their peak...this song is about people who give wrong answers to our problems, and are just trying to get more rich, and more food and luxury then they deserve, they tell you they will end poverty, but when was the last time they even tried to do something about it? Greg Graffin is a motherfucking genius...

also, Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all my decisions
With a quick wink of the eye
And a "God you must be joking!", sounds a little like he is questioning punk rock, not so much in it's goals, but in its actions, i see greedier, richer, stupider, more dangerous people entering branches of power every year, we get pissed off, and we might have the right idea, but is that any better than having the wrong idea if we aren't doing a goddamn thing?

i think he is using sarcasim....from governments point of view....like what the presidents "say" they will do for our "great" nation but just want complete control....just giving the idiots a brand new religion....hes mimicing them.....being what he despises....but also saying what he truly feels....but he is aware that the human instinct of GREED will kick in once they obtain.....

I've always liked this song. It's a race for BR against other idealists to be the first to 'save' the world by making it better. Even though they're all adding to the problem of forcing their version of 'better' on everyone.

To me this sounds like Greg was desperate to say this within a song, and i think he did it perfectly.

The lyrics describe the ideals of what he would like to achieve, what he would view as a perfect world where everyone understood each other and conflict and exploitation was eradicated. "We'll have peace on earth.." shows this.

But Greg is aware that this ideal is impossible, and he shows this with the lines "with a quick wink of the eye...", demonstrating the corruption within alot of politics today. The picture that this song paints is idealic but the song has an underlying tone of frustration/desperation with the knowledge that it is unlikely this utopia will occur.

I don't think anyone could control the entire world without fucking it up. I'm pretty sure it's sarcastic, he sounds idealistic and like an overbearing dictator at the same time.

i think its talking about all of these different groups/people that think theyre making the world a better place but its not working. you're stupid to think you can change the world in the blink of an eye.

"Hey Brother Christian with your high and might errand,
Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying.
Hey Sister Bleeding Heart with all of your compassion,
Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation.
Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure,
Can you improve this place with the data that you gather?"
religious groups-they try so relentlessly to convert people that people ignore them. although they go out and do all of these good deeds, its not gonna stop people from "sinning."

"Hey Mother Mercy can your loins bear fruit forever?
Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure?"
-is having mercy on these ignorant people a good thing or a bad thing?

"And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all my decisions
With a quick wink of the eye
And a "God you must be joking!"
-the chorus is sarcastic. this person thinks that with his/her religion, he/she can change the world in the blink of an eye, only to find out they were wrong

"Hey Mr. Diplomat with your worldly aspirations,
Did you see the children cry when you left them at the station?
Hey moral soldier you've got righteous proclamation,
And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations."
-the diplomats try to aid foreign countries, but theres still poverty there. soldiers can say they have the honor of dying for their country, but the war is because of religion (precious tomes, referring to the bible and such)

"And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all of my decisions
I want to conquer the world,
Expose the culprits and feed them to the children,
I'll do away with air pollution and then all save the whales,
We'll have peace on earth and global communion.
I want to conquer the world! "
-the ending is totally sarcastic. no more air pollution, save the whales(sortuve ridiculous), and theres no chance in hell everyone will have a global communion in peace.

i think the message is pretty obvious, but hey, i could be wrong.

Gurewitz wrote this song, get your stuff straight to those who are saying it was Graffin. ;-)

Anyway, I pretty much agree with what kuffs said about it being a sarcastic song. The narrator wants to conquer the world and is questioning all these other perspectives (soldier, diplomat, scientist, etc) when really the narrator's actions are just another perspective to someone else.
