Let's all get up and dance to a song
That was a hit before your Mother was born
Though she was born a long long time ago
Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Sing it again

Let's all get up and dance to a song
That was a hit before your Mother was born
Though she was born a long long time ago
Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Lift up your hearts and sing me a song
That was a hit before your Mother was born
Though she was born a long long time ago
Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Sing it again

Da da dada da da da dada dada dada da da
Da dada da da
Though she was born a long long time ago
Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Your Mother should know (your Mother should)
Your Mother should know.

Yeah.

General Comment:I believe it's a simple song about time, motherhood, all that. I'm bound to make it an exercise when I'm older and have grandchildren and such to sing this song to them and then have the mothers sing a song that was ah it before they were born, etc...

General Comment:By all accounts this song was written by Paul for the BBC programme "Our World". It certainly fills everything about the brief, a simple song with a catchy tune. Sorry Paul, but John just did it a lot better when he wrote "All You Need is Love".

General Comment:This song is beautiful... simple... sweet... The BACKGROUND is fantastic, each part singing a DIFFERENT yet totally complementary melody... It's not exactly harmony... It's background counterpoint, simple, but EXTREMELY well done! The finish is superb, with the Beatles' trademark "Yeahaaah" subtly worked in as the last word. The one or two negative comments here? You folks don't know BEANS! Don't believe me? Ask my mother.. She should know! :-)

General Comment:It's about how history repeats itself and we all "Get up and dance" to the same thing our parents and grandparents did. We do the same mistakes they did while ignoring their advice. "Your mother should know" because she's been there and she did the exact same thing at your age, and she ignored her mother's advice.

General Comment:I always thought this song was sending a message that people should accept all music, both old and new, rather than only the music of their own time or generation.
