In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
Till we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

And our friends are all aboard
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play

We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

(Full speed ahead Mr. Boatswain, full speed ahead
Full speed ahead it is, Sergeant.
Cut the cable, drop the cable
Aye, Sir, aye
Captain, captain)

As we live a life of ease
Every one of us has all we need
Sky of blue and sea of green
In our yellow submarine

We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine
We all live in a yellow submarine
Yellow submarine, yellow submarine

General Comment:Beatlemania is always not something that can be figured out by traditional psychology, transactional analysis, or anything quite that absurd. The explaination for the song is socially unacceptable by conventional thinking, even to the present day. Read your back issues of science fiction magazines for the answer, it's in several languages, the story was that popular. It's just a violation of conventional thinking, the answer is not a no-brainer.

"The psychologists got Beatlemania all wrong". Did George Harrison or Ringo Starr say that?

General Comment:This song and Octopus's garden are about living in a world where you can be yourself and free and safe from the judgements of the real world. Liverpool is a Maritime city. The boys knew all about the way's of the sailor's and merchant seamen. Not brain surgery folks on what these songs are about, but the real world (everyone in these comments) will never figure it out in their self imposed bigotry and ignorance.

General Comment:Paul wrote this song as a children's song, but found his voice didn't work for it so got Ringo to sing it.

General Comment:Oh, my...the lack of knowledge about the Beatles is staggering. Paul says that the idea came to him while he was falling asleep. Just a simple children's song, nothing more, nothing less. And who better to pull it off than Ringo. It's also important to know that this song was part of one of the few double A-side singles that the Beatles released. What was on the flipside? "Eleanor Rigby"! Isn't it just a wee bit possible that the Beatles were announcing to the world that the band could no longer be pigeon-holed as just another pop group?

General Comment:The WORST song ever written/sung/performed. This song should have been SOOOOO beneath the Beatles. It's horrible. It's not even catchy... it's cliche. It's not light and airy...it's stupid and shallow. It's just plain BAD. It makes the list of my top five WORST SONGS EVER!!! Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

General Comment:i think it's about how we're all living in a little happy bubbly we've created for ourselves ( the yellow submarine ) , living a life of ease and blocking out that there are some really terrible things going on around us ( we sailed up to the sun and lived beneath the waves )anybody agree?

General Comment:Well, my take on it is that this song is really an anti war protest tune. The sea of green being soldiers and they went into a yellow submarine ( yellow as the color of cowardice) beneath the sea of green, with friends next door ( Canada ).

General Comment:I'm no expert here, but I seriously doubt The Beatles released this as a childrens song. I read an article a long time ago about songs with a hidden drug reference and they specifically detailed this song. From what I read, it was about a commonly prescribed downer, maybe for ADHD or something back in the 60's. The pill was abused often and easily attainable. Being that it was a downer and a yellow capsule spawned it's nickname "Yellow Submarine" as the shape is similar to that of a submarine, and a downer brings you down like a submarine. I wish I remembered the actual name of the drug, but as I said I read the article years ago.
