Saw him sittin on a sidewalk in Fresno
Braided hair and a tye-dyed t-shirt on
Talkin to himself about Vietnam
About the tour he did and the deal he got
He said this world ain't the same if you ask me
If I could be somewhere else, I'd tell you where I'd be

I'd be rollin' on a river with Creedence
Stealin' kisses from Peggy Sue
I'd be knee-deep in sand on a Panama beach
In the spring of '72
I'd be wastin' away on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll in
He said what I wouldn't give just to live those songs again.

Saw him workin' the counter at Walgreens
With a new haircut and a Bachelor's Degree
Talkin' to himself about his raw deal
Cussin' Uncle Sam and the GI bill
He said This world ain't the same if you ask me
If I could be somewhere else, I'd tell you where I'd be

I'd be rollin' on a river with Creedence
Stealin' kisses from Peggy Sue
I'd be knee-deep in sand on a Panama beach
In the spring of '72
I'd be wastin' away on the dock of the bay
Watchin' the tide roll in
He said what I wouldn't give just to live those songs again.

General Comment:i agree with you kelster. My life is written by songs. A certain song can my you happy or break your heart. It brings back memories you've let go of or secrets you've kept hidden. Even though the people I'm surrounded by have changed, and some have come and gone, a certain song can remind me of someone from my past. Whether the relationship ended good or bad, I'm reminded of the times I shared with them, the fun we've had and the tears we've cried. I'm thankful everyday for those memories, like I said good or bad, they make me who I am.

General Comment:This song, in my opinion talks about how sometimes songs classify periods of memories of your life. Either you hear a song and think of someone...or a experience in your life, happy or sad.
I love this song because I feel the same way.
I had a bad break up once and the guy after dedicated the song 99 problems to me...so when I hear that song Isometimes cry about those memories. Peace my friends.
