Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it, New York, New York

I want to wake up in a city, that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap

These little town blues, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it, in old New York
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York

New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city, that never sleeps
To find I'm a number one, head of the list,
Cream of the crop at the top of the heap.

These little town blues, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it, in old New York
If I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York

General Comment:I think this song is about making it in a big city. Ny city is really symbolism for Clearwater Beach Fl. When he says 'These vagabound shoes are longing to stray', he is talking about walking the beach. When he says ' I'm king of the hill, top of the heap'. Most people realize that Florida has the lowest sea level of any state. He is adding humor and irony to the song. Another point of irony is when he says, 'I'm gonna make a brand new start of it in old N.Y.' The word old is perhaps the biggest clue . Most people retire on Clearwater Beach. Being older, hence retirement. The brand new start is simply retirement.

General Comment:I've always felt that this is like an infomercial for New York and that some corrupt Italian-American politicians put a gun to his head and forced him to make a propaganda song like this. Maybe it's just me.

General Comment:This song makes sense to Frank because himself he was so desperate to make a fresh start out of Hoboken (The place where he grew up). Ive never been to NY before but if i get the chance, I'll be playing this song in a taxi or something...looking at all the scenery...

General Comment:About a guy thats living in a small town, somewhere in the U.S. that no one knows about in a smaller city and he wants to get away and start a new life at the place to be, at modern day rome itself, NY! (Manhattan of course). :)

In the song he losing his love for his little town, and wants to start a brand new start at NY, cause he feels power, and he wants to feel the power, cause he knows when he is on top in NY, he is on top of the world! The feeling of power, and being in the best city in the world thats the center of it all!

God I love this song! :D

General Comment:I like this song. It's one of the few songs that I admit to trying to create my own choreography to...although I usually don't remember all of the steps the next time I try and dance to it. I'm from New York State, and even though I've never been to NYC, I still think it goes for ny state as well as ny city.
