Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day hey,hey
Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mister blue sky is living here today hey, hey
Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?
Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, mister blue sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for
Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
Mister blue sky, mister blue sky
Mister blue sky
Mister blue, you did it right
But soon comes mister night creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way
Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
Mister blue sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day hey,hey
Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mister blue sky is living here today hey, hey
Mister blue sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?
Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, mister blue sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for
Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do

Mister blue sky, mister blue sky
Mister blue sky
Mister blue, you did it right
But soon comes mister night creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder

It is just a british song from british musician, who, as every british people don't see the sky very often a year.
there's the fact:
wiki.answers.com/Q/…
That's why seeing the blue of sky in UK could be waited as long as a child to born!
By the way, it is only about the sky, but this song's nonetheless beautifull, and i love it.
Thanks ELO.
I guess you can interpret this into life, like most things. Life can get down at times, but there's always good that's waiting around the corner. But I just like to imagine this song as the perfect day. Especially since the ending music perfectly describes the feeling of a sunset. I just imagine him saying good by to the sun as it slowly goes down in the horizon.
"Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration
Mr. Blue Sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for"
- Its the due date of his child, "this is the day we've waited for." And he's welcoming his child into the world "Hey you with the pretty face / Welcome to the human race."
"Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong
Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong"
- I think this is where the singer is realizing how his life seemed pointless/sad until the birth of his child. As if the sun was hiding away making everything dark, but with the new life, the sun came out and drove the clouds away, depicting the title "Mr. Blue Sky." Perhaps the phrase "Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why / You had to hide away for so long" even can be described as the singer being impatient for the birth of his son, of having to wait a grueling 9 months for him/her to be born. Maybe it even foreshadows that his child was a boy, with the title's "Mr."
"Mr. Blue you did it right
But soon comes Mr. Night
Creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this way"
- Ok, I had some trouble with this, but I think I realized that this is the part where the singer reflects on how although his son/daughter makes his life joyful and his skies blue, there is also a harder side to being a dad, and that "Mr. Night" is also sort of a way of saying that you have to wake up at night to take care of your kid, and sometimes you don't get any rest. However, with "Neevr mind I'll remember you this way," he's going to look back after his child is grown up and remember how much he loved him no matter how much work it took to be a dad and how it was all worth it in the end.
Haha, sorry this is long. I've seen numerous posts on how this song doesn't mean anything, and I just wanted to counter that. I love this song and thoroughly believe it's lyrics are not an accident. Hope someone agrees with me on this analogy!
Nevertheless, it is maybe the best "lift you up" song and I defy anyone not to feel better after hearing it. Oh, and for those who don't know. It and other ELO was used extensively in the Dr Who episode "Love and Monsters" and anyone who likes ELO should check it out.
Finally I didn't know the final line was "Please turn me over" - I always thought it was "Mr Blue Sky" but listening again I realise I was mistaken. It sure is interesting what you can learn on this page.
I could see my self just dancing around in the middle of nowhere to this. I don't know where the music would be playing from, but it'd be great.
but really, it's rare nowadays to hear 'so happy' music like this nowadays.
makes you wonder what's with all those 'electronic beat hip-hop' thingy that lots of bands/artists seem to 'chase' about, yet they seem to forget the number one ingredient in music: the EMOTION, just like this oldies-but-goodies song right here!
and btw, I'm a Gen-Y kid,
makes you wonder eh how I can finally stumble upon this great 'old' song?
well, it's NEVER too old, this song is! in fact, it's now in one of my number one favorite song list.
thank you Internet!
