You fry me in a pan
You cook me in a can
You stretch me with your hands

You love to watch me bake
You serve me up with cake
And that's you're big mistake

Your guest comes in dressed smart
You offer a la carte
You didn't have the heart

And I wanna T.V. embrace
And I'm getting off this boiling plate

They swore you'd steal my steam
To feed your dream
And then be gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong

You left me burned and seared
You left me ripped and teared
And older than my years

I should have known at first
That you would leave me hurt
You had to try dessert

No way to let off steam
Don't bother milk or cream
No way to let off steam

And I wanna T.V. embrace
And I'm getting off this boiling plate

They swore you'd steal my steam
To feed your dream
And then be gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong

It must feel good to stand above me
While I make you so proud of me
It must feel good that I'm now gone
I wish I could say that everyone was wrong

I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong
I wish everyone was wrong

General Comment:I read through what you guys think this song is about... I always thought it was about something COMPLETELY different! :S

I thought it was about a kid who was really talented and his parents were trying to push him into a famous career so they could become famous themselves. (A bit like Lleyton Hewitt's parents lol!) "It must feel good to stand above me, while I make you so proud of me." And the bit that's like "they swore you'd steal my steam to feed your dream and then be gone."

When it's saying "Your guest comes in dressed smart, you offer a la carte, you didn't have the heart." I always thought it meant like his parents were showing him off to everyone, saying "Look how good we are, we have a talented child."

And then the kid was so stressed out because his parents were putting so much pressure on him and they didn't really care what he wanted that he took up smoking and they didn't know, and he died of lung cancer. Hence, Cigarettes Will Kill You.

Everyone else seems to think it's about a bad relationship :S
    Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno.
I like my interpretation more though. :] lol.

General Comment:I thought it was about a destructive, cigarette-like relationship too, but after paying closer attention to the lyrics... it's just about cigarettes! LOL! I love how Ben Lee can make something like this work!

General Comment:I saw him in concert, and the line " I wanna t.v. embrace" is a line he thought he heard in a song and said "wow, that's a wicked line." Then he realized that it wasn't the real words, and HE wrote that "wicked" line. So he wrote this song :)

General Comment:Gee, i'm glad nobody has tried to say its about someone whos girlfriend actually tried to cook him. Usually someone takes things a little too literally!

Did anyone one else find it amusing that on Triple J's hottest 100, they put a song by Cake after this song? You serve me up with Cake? Well i did.

General Comment:i love this song. i dont think it has to be a romantic relationship- like the lyrics could describe a bad friendship, when u realise someone isn't the person u thought they were. i know it's happened to me and it really hurts
