I Dig a Pygmy by Charles Hawtrey and the Deaf Aids
Phase one, in which Doris gets her oats

Two of us riding nowhere
Spending someone's
Hard earned pay
You and me Sunday driving
Not arriving
On our way back home

We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

Two of us sending postcards
Writing letters
On my wall
You and me burning matches
Lifting latches
On our way back home

We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

You and I have memories
Longer than the road that stretches out ahead

Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing solo
In the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere
On our way back home

We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

You and I have memories
Longer than the road that stretches out ahead

Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing solo
In the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere
On our way back home

We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

We're going home
You better believe it
Goodbye

i would just like to say, tho i'm not proclaiming this to be right, that it could also be about john...notice that his relationship w/ linda was "newfound" and that this song sings about "memories longer than the road that stretches out ahead"...but

Two of us riding nowhere Spending someone’s hard earned pay, You and me Sunday driving, Not arriving on our way back home.

they are living the carefree lives of musicians, spending the money they made from people buying their records, just "sunday driving," not really caring where the road leads...the they got to a fork in the road and went separate ways, and eventually got lost and can never get back to where they started, all they hav left are the memories...the next verse is about their rebellious youth and the final verse about their current relationship "standing solo," for the first time, without each other..."chasing paper," refers to the pursuit of money, the object that got between them...they're "getting nowhere on the way back home" ...they can't get back to how things were
