Reagan took a lot of flack for that trip, since he participated in a memorial at a cemetery which held quite a lot of dead Nazis. Dee Dee later weakened his dislike of Ronnie and changed the title to "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down."

It wasn't actually Dee Dee's choice. Johnny forced Dee Dee to change the name for the album, or it wouldn't go on (due to Johnny's Right-Wing, Pro-Reagan beliefs).

As said before it's about Reagans controversial trip Germany to be a part of a memorial service that paid respect to some fallen Nazi soldiers... Johnny hated the idea of the song cos he was strictly right wing

This song has the BEST song lyrics, I remember listening to them when I was younger and it making me want to kick those facious, controlling authoritarian figures right in the face! Not that I actualy did... but one can dream.

johnny never wanted to play it he was a closet republican but a band is a democracy and majority rules.just goes to show.i love the ramones,there is no bigger fan than me.i own all the albums and every t-shirt version of the ramones ever made.i sit and interpret evry song until i'm sure i understand them.i also know every song lyric by heart.but this song just doesn't sit right with me.

jookilicious is right. Bonzo was the name of the clown that ronald reagan played when he was an actor. When joey said the chorus (my brain is hanging...) i think it means he (and the ramones) is so far ahead by actually seeing the corruption in politicians, when everyone else just seems to think that because they are so powerful, that they dont make any mistakes. I love this song so much. I also don't like a lot of politicians because of how much they lie, and how selfish some are.

Floydian42, "Bonzo" does mean Reagan but it has nothing to do with clowns. It refers to "Bedtime for Bonzo" in which Reagan co-starred with a chimpanzee. Bonzo was the chimp.

As far as I'm aware, this is Joey's song. Joey was Jewish and politically liberal, so had particular reason to be dismayed at Reagan's visit to an SS cemetery. The comments about Johnny are correct.

The song actually has some similarities with Elvis Costello's "Less then Zero", which was about British fascist Oswald Moseley.

Whether we agree with Johnny's political views or not, I think he must be respected for sticking to his beliefs and not selling out just because it would have been more popular to do so. After all, isn't that one of the things we really like about the Ramones to begin with?
