I could use some time to curl away
My aggression is where you stake your claim
Why I question this curve on which you grade
My conception, a joke or latest craze?

I try to get away, and yet I stick around
So fall and crawl away, and brush away loose ground

My intention, may I arrive at eight?
Lie and dream some, surprise you guys I'm late
All right, correction, forgetting something, wait

I try to get away, and yet I stick around
So fall and crawl away, and brush away loose ground
Brush away loose ground
Brush away

Song Meaning:This song is about Layne wanting to escape the pressure's of fame, brush it all away and live a normal life once again. "I try to get away" - About wanting to escape fame and the media." I could use some
    Time to curl away
    My aggression
Is where you stake your claim" - Layne expressing his feelings and how he feels about the media "My intention
    Can I arrive at eight
    Lie and dream some
Surprise you guys I'm late" about Layne's dissatisfaction with having to come up with new songs (arrive at eight and dream up some new songs).

    "I try to get away
And yet I stick around" - About Layne wanting to leave Alice in Chains.

This song could also possibly be about a serial killer who's stalked and abducted someone, and is from the victim's perspective "I try to get away".

My Opinion:the song could be about suicide like the chorus says: "i try to get away" like i try to die, get away from the world "But yet i stick around" but still you are here. i know my comment does not make sense. RIP Layne.

General Comment:its about how laynes addiction and general lifestyle has affected his life and made him into a joke to the people around him, and also how his fans idolize him and make him into some kind of cliched rock god stereotype. hes trying to get away from this tortured celebrity junkie image that his fans and friends and bandmates have of him, but in the end he knows its never gonna leave him. its just about people wrongly judging him really.

General Comment:I think it could either be about addiction or celebrity obsession.

In Layne's case, the two were often interrelated.

He wants to get away from the rumor mill, or he wants isolation.

Either one would make sense, I think.

General Comment:I think when he says "I try to get away, and yet I stick around" he means he wants to quit his addiction, but he just keeps using. I think that the "ground" in the song is the 'Heroin plain" as I like to call it. "So fall and crawl away" I think refers to using the drug and falling right in the abyss of addiction and how you can never leave it. I also think that the main part of the song "And Brush Away loose ground" means to just brush off the people who are trying to help.

I doubt that made sense, but whatever. I'm pretty high.

General Comment:in alot layne's lyrics, he jumps around from 1st,2nd, and 3rd person. also, he talks about completely different subjects in different sections. i think in the first part of this song, hes referring to God, which he does at one point or another in nearly all of his writings. the rest of it, sillybilly gots it right i think.

General Comment:This song is talking of Layne's fight with addition to heroin... All of the change metaphors in the song are depicting his struggle to leave the people around him to get clean... Brush away lose ground in reference to digging his grave a little more each time he "rides the Horse" ( shoots-up)

General Comment:Here's my guess: Sometimes you gotta take a blind step to find footing. Somtimes that step isn't secure and you fall. So you brush away the loose ground and you find your footing. Metaphor, can even be applied literally.
