This song is awesome! Im glad to hear the new stuff and its all sounding good. I also heard that they are returning to the music of BloodSugarSexMagik which would kick ass!

yea i'm confused. since it's songmeanings.net.. i wanna hear some meanings! i don't have any ideas about what it's about i just love the tune. i like the mix of slow with fast. good tempo. good beat. well hopefully this song will get some posts and i can see what it's about

hmmm a meaning.. maybe this song's to a girlfriend that he doesn't want to see anymore and is letting her down gently and saying that Dani's the girl that he's into now so when he says "by the way i tried to say i know you from before" (lyrics must notta got all the way posted) i'm guessing it means he misses the girl he used to know and is moving on to dani the girl he met possibly in a pawn shop? Maybe this interpretation is pretty far fetched but I don't see any of you putting any ideas out there!! :P

im not really sure this song has some DEEP meaning..but from the main chorus its just the dood standing under the "marquee" which is a box office and some chik is singing to him while hes waiting in line for a show. maybe its just about relationships because it then goes off and starts talking about how he wants to get with a dyke! hmm!

I just read an interview with the band on the album and Anthony said that it is about a night in L.A.
The lyrics are about numerous things happening at once in one night, some of them happy some of them sad. He made some refference about a car crash, loan sharks, a lonely prostitute and unaquired love..

Man i love the chili's.. THis song sounds like a hybrid of the styles in bloodsugar and Californication. I just hope they tour in Australia.. anyone got any info about this it would be appreciated

Yeah this is a wicked song...it's gr8 2 c that the chili peppers have gone back to making some propa funk..who posted these lyrics up? they dont sound right and they dont look right either. i agree with "my heart bleeds 4 u" cuz i dont think this song has much deep meaning...it sounds pretty easy like a night out on the town

I don't know what it means but the chorus on this song makes it one of their best ever. All their depressing songs are on my top songs list. Otherside, Under a Bridge, and now By the Way are definetly some of the best songs ever.

ummm well I think the song is supposed to be up for interpretation. Cuz like at the end he trails off like "By the way I tried to say I'd be there, waiting for......" and he never finishes, it's like he's going to finish but then the song ends and we never find out. We never know. Maybe I could ask Anthony face to face, duuuuuuuude I so wish that would be beyond awesome!

I am such a damn sucker for the chili peppers! I love them so much and I'm really happy that this CD is probably leaning more towards their BloodSugarSexMagik days. BSSM is, I think (just a personal opinion) is the best CD they put out. One Hot minute is pretty awesome too....... wait, what the heck am I saying??? All RHCP's CD's are awesome. Anyway, I'm just soooo extremely excited about "By The Way" being released. Oh, and also, it gets released July 8th everywhere but America....it's out July 9th here in the U.S. (in case any of you wanted to know.) This song is really good. I like the guitar in it. Even though the lyrics don't make much sense, I love it. On BSSM some lyrics don't make much sense. I love the way they write.......

Ya ive gotta agree that this song is about a night out it LA, iI dont actually find that i like the verse but the chorus is amazing. The first time i heard this was in like a beer commercial, and ever since ive been trying to get it. I love the chorus It really makes me think of all my lost freinds and people Ive grown apart from. But thats just me.
