Lyrics for There Goes The Fear as interpreted by ruben

There Goes The Fear Lyrics
Out of here
We're out of here
Out of heartache
Along with fear
There goes the fear again
There goes the fear

And cars speed fast
Out of here
And life goes past
Again so near
There goes the fear again
There goes the fear

Close your brown eyes
And lay down next to me
Close your eyes, lay down
'Cos there goes the fear
Let it go

You turn around and life's passed you by
You look to ones you love to ask them why
You look to those you love to justify
You turned around and life's passed you by
Passed you by again

And late last night
Makes up her mind
Another fight
left behind
There goes the fear again
Let it go
There goes the fear

Close your brown eyes
And lay down next to me
Close your eyes, lay down
'Cos there goes the fear
Let it go

You turn around and life's passed you by
You look to ones you love to ask them why
you look to those you love to justify, why
you turned around and life's passed you by

Think of me when you're coming down
But don't look back when leaving town
Oh think of me when he's calling out
But don't look back when leaving town
Think of me when you close your eyes
But don't look back when you break all ties
Think of me when you're coming down
But don't look back when leaving town today

There goes the fear again
Let it go
There goes the fear
Let it go

Think of me when you close your eyes
But don't look back when you break all ties
Think of me when you're coming down
But don't look back when leaving town today

when i hear this song i think of a couple that is comming up on a big change and the guy knows that there is nothing that he can do about it so he accpets it and lets go of the fear that is holding him, and all he is asking is that she remebers him. not to much to ask in my opinion.

I think it's about having no luck in one town so him and his girlfriend are moving out but as she has lived in the town so long she is apprehensive but he's saying everything will be ok as soon as we leave as this town brings us down.

I think it's about life, and how life tends to pass people by because of fear. I have missed quite a few chances because of fear, so I suppose I can relate to the idea. The way this song builds up is brilliant and very moving!

I agree with lauren, is about passing on things just because your afraid of what could come of it and forgetting it may actually be a good thing.

Lauren's theory is probably the most accurate IMO. For me, the song is about coming out of a period of fear about losing someone. At some point you think to yourself about someone "Well, go on if you gotta go, but don't look back when you keep running into walls and can't find your way out."

This could be a love triangle song.

The Doves come from Manchester with its history of rave - "The Fear" is a term from dance culture referring to paranoia, and "coming down," of course, is the day after.

It's about a woman fleeing her relationship, and makes reference to dance culture and youth. When it says "Think of me when you close your eyes, but don't look back when you break the ties," it's like it's saying GO! But don't forget the good times.

Have you seen the video? Fck, you get the feeling this guy was doing okay, he was coping, until this very moment when he’s suddenly overcome with fear brought on a by a panic attack. Then he’s bombarded with these chilling flashbacks of a younger hipper version of himself and what we assume was his former pretty girlfriend. It’s so freakin’ scary but omg so painstakingly beautiful at the same time. Perhaps every mid life crisis is triggered off this way.
I think the lyrics warn us not to let this happen. The song is very much a mournful cry about growing old and life passing by in a flash, but at the same time it’s also about embracing change and letting go of a youth that is no longer yours. Yes, treasure these memories with all your heart but don’t hold on to them too tightly or they will consume you. Accept the inevitable and grow old graciously.

There's a really good remix of this song on James Lavelle's Global Underground Barcelona CD; in fact I heard that before I heard the original and I like the remix a lot better.

ANYWAY, so no one thought that maybe "the fear" referred to people's fear of dying? A lot of you seem to have hit on the fact that the song is about memories. Of course, as humans we have no control over our memory; however, we do have control over how it affects us in the present. Memories can give us the joy of re-living past experiences, or they can plague us with regret.

And that's where I think "the fear" - fear of dying - comes in. We all know that we're gonna go sometime, and that it's most likely a one-shot deal. That knowledge makes a lot of people feel pressured to make sure they "do everything right", which in turn makes them look back at their past and FEAR that maybe they took a wrong turn somewhere. This is what the chorus is about - you start questioning things and trying to come up with justifications for things as a substitute for your inability to change the past.

But you don't need to - just "let it go", like the singer says. He drives the point home with the "think of me" part - enjoy the memories, but don't let them paralyze you. Don't let fear of death become fear of life in the present moment.

This is very much a song about getting used to being older and/or dying and realizing your youth is gone. The video un-subtly paints this theme, as well.

I just can't tell if "there goes the fear" means he's getting rid of it, or like "here it comes again." ???
