Well I just got back from a break in the fight
I was weighing in heavy but still feeling alright
all I hear in the distance mines and shells
here come the sirens wailing another attack to be repelled
do you think we're gonna make it?
I don't know unless we try
you could sit here scared to move or we could take them by surprise
it's submission that they want it's surrender that they need
when we're doing it their way their aims will be achieved

They're gonna come when you're not ready
when you're not to well-prepared
they're gonna prey upon your weakness
no man's soul is ever spared
you've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them show them what it's all
about this man is not for sale there will be no backing down

Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you! We shall succeed
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you!

They won't get me they won't get me thought they never cease to try
they won't get me they won't get me I would rather fight and die
they won't get me they won't get me well my friend will they get you?
when they get you when they get you tell me what are you gonna do?

do you think we're gonna make it?
you could sit here scared to move or we could take them by surprise
it's submission that they want it's surrender that they need
when we're doing it their way their aims will be achieved

They're gonna come when you're not ready
when you're not to well-prepared
they're gonna prey upon your weakness
no man's soul is ever spared
you've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them show them what it's all
about this man is not for sale there will be no backing down

They're gonna come when you're not ready
when you're not to well-prepared
they're gonna prey upon your weakness
no man's soul is ever spared
you've got to stand up, yeah, and fight them show them what it's all
about this man is not for sale there will be no backing down

Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you! We shall succeed
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you!
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you! We shall succeed
Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you!

General Comment:The music video is posted on Youtube, and there is one scene of two guys punching each other, another of a mob scene, protests gone wild and violent, another of what look soviet troops advancing upon German troops across open field. I think this video might just be about fighting for its own sake...

General Comment:I just like to pretend they're saying, "we're so sexy" instead of "we shall succeed." It's a fun little thing for me.

General Comment:Irish_Inferno76... Fields of Athenry; Black Velvet Band; Wild Rover; Rocky Road to Dublin (a.k.a Road to Dubh); Finnegan's Wake; Billy's bones...are not Dropkick songs...they have been adapted by Dropkick to put more tracks on albums and to appeal to a larger market; i.e. the 'irish market' these are classic irish folk songs adapted to the dropkick style on their albums. if you want to know what dropkick stands for: Solidarity. whether this solidarity is with respect to family (see walk away); friends (see never alone, caps and bottles, curse of a fallen soul), the worker (see heroes of the past, the torch, buried alive)

I'm not saying these are the only themes their songs embody, but these seem to be the predominant themes.

General Comment:I completely agree with fear saying they have a tribal feeling to them. Because when I went a concert of theirs a few weeks again, it felt like the crowd was a part of the band.

General Comment:My favorite DKM song! I always think of the movie Aliens when I hear this song because of the last stand Hudson made, and I always thought this would be the song going through his head at that moment.

General Comment:This is such a cool song. It epitomises everything the Dropkick's mean to me- energy, loyalty, fucking fun!
"Stand up and fight and I'll stand up with you! We shall succeed!"
The Dropkicks have an almost tribal feel to them, it's indescribable, songs like this really put that forward. You can either consider the historical significance of this song, or I prefer just thinking of it as a 'stand up for your rights, and I'll be there with you' song.
    Over and out.

General Comment:but not in the 1920's. read the short story "the sniper" and it has an armored vehicle in it. and theirs even a movie about kids in n. ireland in the 1980's with an armored vehicle.not every area in n. ireland is heavily populated or even in the city. and in the early to mid 1900's it was even less populated

General Comment:Of course there were air raid sirens, because there were possible air raids. They have nothing to do with mines or shells. And I never said anything about armored vehicles. I said mines and shells would be impractical because the war zones were so crowded.

General Comment:the british in northern ireland are not truly called "soldiers". they are their to police ulster county for the safety of the protastants and catholics. when attacks did happen, sirens were sounded to alert the people and the british that something has happened. also in the 1920's or so, british tanks and other armored personel were used in the streets of ireland. and how would they know about the world wars if they never lived during those time periods. their were air raid sirens in america during the second world war, but their were never mines and/or shells going off in america during those two wars.
