There's such a sad look
Deep in your eyes, a kind of pale jewel
Open and closed within your eyes
I place the sky within your eyes

There's such a fooled heart
Beating so fast in search of new dreams
A love that will last within your heart
I'll place the moon within your heart

As the pain sweeps through
Makes no sense for you
Every thrill has gone
Wasn't too much fun at all
But I'll be there for you
As the world falls down

Falling
Falling in love

I'll paint you mornings of gold
I'll spin you Valentine evenings
Though we're strangers till now
We're choosing the path between the stars
I'll leave my love between the stars

As the pain sweeps through
Makes no sense for you
Every thrill has gone
Wasn't too much fun at all
But I'll be there for you
As the world falls down

Falling
Falling
As the world falls down
Falling
Falling
Falling
Falling in love
As the world falls down
Falling
Falling
Falling in love
As the world falls down

Falling
Falling

Makes no sense at all
Makes no sense to fall
Falling
As the world falls down
Falling
Falling
Falling in love
As the world falls down
Falling
Falling
Falling in love
Falling in love
Falling in love
Falling in love
Falling in love

I have yet to see the movie (ordered it on Netflix) but have read synopses and seen clips and I'm sure many a romantic young maiden must have thought Sarah should have become Jareth's bride -- but that wouldn't have worked. Then the whole point of the story is lost. Sarah CAN'T be Jareth's bride. Jareth isn't supposed to be a lover or a sweetheart or a romantic interest. He is a manifestation of fantasy and of a little girl's love of playing make-believe. So their parting isn't really a PARTING, like a romantic parting. It's human social development. It's a young woman leaving the little-girl world of let's-pretend behind and taking her place in the mature world of responsibility and people. Of course Sarah and Jareth have to part, because there comes a time in every young girl's life where she has to take off the princess costume, put on some real clothes, and go out there and meet society.

The song, though, is beautiful and it sounds like a man wanting to be a woman's romantic hero, so it seems, to me, to be more about a sweetheart than about fantasy, and if my heart's true hero ever stops BEING a fantasy, I would play it at our wedding (assuming I meet and fall for a gentleman who can at least TOLERATE the song stylings of the talented Mr. B. I don't know exactly how many fellows are as bonkers for Bowie as I am. I am, after all, a lady.)
