We the people fight for our existence
We don't claim to be perfect but we're free
We dream our dreams alone with no resistance
Fading like the stars we wish to be

You know I didn't mean what I just said
But my God woke up on the wrong side of his bed
And it just don't matter now

As little by little we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
Little by little the wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little you have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why you're really here?

True perfection has to be imperfect
I know that that sounds foolish but it's true
Day has come, now you'll have to accept
Life inside your head we give to you

You know I didn't mean what I just said
But my God woke up on the wrong side of his bed
And it just don't matter now

As little by little we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
Little by little the wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little you have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why you're really here?

As little by little we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
Little by little the wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little you have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why you're really here?

Why am I really here?
Why am I really here?

My Interpretation:THIS SONG IS DEFINITELY DEDICATED TO THEMSELVES TO KEEP EXIST IN MUSIC!

Oasis popularity has fallen away since Be Here Now album and after their founding member (guigsy and bonehead) left the band.

It's a very difficult time for oasis to rise their popularity again at the time. they struggled to keep exist in music world and rise again as the best rock band in the world. Most of the lyrics tell about their life story and motivation.

"We the people fight for our existence
We don't claim to be perfect but we're free
We dream our dreams alone with no resistance
Fading like the stars we wish to be"

They fight for their existence as a very popular band. They didn't claim as the best band in the world, but in fact, they're free to claim as well.

"As little by little we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
Little by little the wheels of your life have slowly fallen off
Little by little you have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why you're really here?"

It's about what the god gave to them (the popularity, successes, etc) but littley by little it's coming down.

    I didnt mean
    what i just said
but my god woke up on the wrong side of his bed
and it just dont matter now"

I agree with CDnaibasak, "someone (maybe noel) making an excuse for a mistake"

"True perfection has to be imperfect
I know that that sounds foolish but it's true
Day has come, now you'll have to accept
Life inside your head we give to you"

2 perfection = noel and liam had been imperfect/declined...now they should realized that what happen at the time was that they're not as splendid as before.

General Comment:I agree with ZeroGenerator, this is an existential song.

We the People fight for our existence, don't claim to be perfect but we're free
we dream our dreams alone with no resistance.

We fight a futile battle to feel alive, We realise that humans are never perfect but at least we're dream freely - undisturbed - (Life could very well be a big dream, there is no way you can prove we're really alive or that individual minds even exist).

Fading like the stars we wish to be - again - we're just specs on the grand scale of things, cherry blossoms, fireworks - Stars - etc

You know I didn't mean what i just said but my god woke up on the wrong side of his bed

    - he's said something he wants to take back - hence he woke up on the wrong side of his bed - since this is his dream he is referring to himself as god.

CHORUS - is simply about living your life to the fullest - with no real purpose, burning out for the sake of burning out

For humans who are imperfect true perfection is always imperfect

"the life inside your head we give to you" - life isn't real it's only inside your head

General Comment:seems he's pondering existence in general. may just be a personal experience that inspired the song, but it masks the true question behind everyone's mind. we're born, we live, we die. while we live, what are we searching for? why did god (or whoever created us) design this circle of life? every action and reaction is part of this same cycle. to live, ask the question, and find the answer. every mystery has an answer. but ultimately, we all seek a perfect world. but if perfection is the answer, in reality, no one person is perfect, and no two people are the exact same.. so the fallacy is we feel pain so we may know true happiness. but is pure happiness having everyone be exactly the same and die side by side (living beings), or having one person left alone in the world and live forever (godly beings)? it still begs the question lol!!! it's like the saying, "what feels worse, being kicked in the balls, or punched in the boob?" now i feel like i'm rambling haha

General Comment:In the demo version, "you know I didn't mean what I just said, but my god just woke up on the wrong side of his bed" is reversed, like "I know you didn't mean what you just said..."

General Comment:We the people fight for our exsistence
we dont claim to be perfect but were free
we dream our dreams alone with no resistance
fading like the stars we wish to be - self-explanatory

    I didnt mean
    what i just said
but my god woke up on the wrong side of his bed
and it just dont matter now - someone making an excuse for a mistake

    little by little
we gave you everything you ever dreamed of
    little by little
wheels of your life their slowly fallin of
    little by little
you have to give it all in all your life
    i ask myself why
your really here - God is saying this to that person(saying dont blame me and pointing out it was he who made the person)

True perfection has to be imperfect
i know that that sounds foolish but its true
    the day has come
and now youll have to accept
the life inside your head we give to you - Not sure

(this is all just a guess)

General Comment:anyone think this could be about USA?
    think about the whole song:
We the people fight for our exsistence (Const. and other countries view of US, always fighting or w/e)
we dont claim to be perfect but were free (other coutries say we think we are perfect, US seen as free place)
we dream our dreams alone with no resistance (people used to come here to try to live their dreams)
fading like the stars we wish to be (people also say we all want to be stars or w/e also about dreams and crap)

same with the whole song, just think about events happening in US. Just my random thoughts that popped into my head around the 50th time i played this song, never thought about its meaning tho. hah

General Comment:"True perfection has to be imperfect."

That line must give away the topic of the song. So yeah, just be patient for the things you want. And plus, to get what you want, you not only dream about it; you HAVE to work for it too. Like, you go to school to get an education. And with education, you get a future. And if you want a future, like with those professional-ish jobs, as I like to call them, then stick with school. Like... LITTLE BY LITTLE, dude.
