Lyrics for Another Day In Paradise as interpreted by Boonechic_21

Another Day In Paradise Lyrics
She calls out to the man on the street
\"Sir, can you help me?
It\'s cold and I\'ve nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?\"

He walks on, doesn\'t look back
He pretends he can\'t hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh think twice, it\'s another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it\'s just another day for you,
You and me in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she\'s been crying
She\'s got blisters on the soles of her feet
Can\'t walk but she\'s trying

Oh think twice...

Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she\'s been there
Probably been moved on from every place
\'Cos she didn\'t fit in there

Oh think twice...

Amazing song. The little riff at the beggining is very catchy and is basically the "hook" of the song. It goes without saying that this song is about homelessness.

Hey pollock, I don't know if the song is entirely about the homeless' dreams of paradise, but as being more of a song about the way people can turn a blind eye to what they don't want to see. The way people can be callous towards others, and Collins' lack of faith in the ability for people to change. It's why he's asking god for guidance; because while he sees the world's problems, and faces them head on, others do not, and feels the only way things can change is through some sort of divine intervention:
"Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say "
Anyway, that's my take on it.

This song is less about the unfortunate and more about society. As a society, espically here in America, we live in our own little paradises and ignore the real problems. The real problems are not your kid not getting the playstation 2 they wanted, the real problems are hunger in third world countries. Refugees who have no place to go and no one that is really willing to help them. This song is about how we neglect our fellow man for our own materalistic wants and desires. There are men, woman, and children who wake up everyday in a pile of their own filth and drink from cantaminated rivers. But those same people thank God that their alive and that their not dead. Another thing I think it brings attention to is our unwillingness to help those in need. In minnesota (though I understand why) the public is complaining about brining hmong refugees over from camps in thialand. Why? don't those people deserve to live the exact American dream we live? anyway, I'll shut up know.

Remind me about when in Washington DC the homeless person died on a park bench right across from the white house. The duality of life in the city

It's pretty self-explanatory, really. That's probably why there hasn't been many shots at interpretation. It's not the homeless dream of paradise... it's that we're in paradise by comparison.

"Oh think twice, it's another day for
You and me in paradise"

We forget how fortunate we are to have all of our nessecities, while there are people who don't even have enough to live off of.

Great song makes people think....most likeley the reason for the song. It is sad but sometimes that’s what it takes for people to realize what they have and to be thankful.

This is such a great song, i still remember when i first heard it when i was four years old and then wanted to give money to some street people in Toronto.

Not only is the song about homeless people wanting a better life, but also about how so many people won't help them.

call me crazy but i see it compleatly different. the way i interpret the song is that by us not doing a good deed we are risking another day in paradise.. another day in heaven.. like if all the deeds that we do, or dont do seal our fate.. for example
Oh think twice, it\'s another day for
You and me in paradise
that you better think about your actions before you go ahead and do it, because are u ready to risk 'your ticket to heaven?' well thats just me.. tell me what you think about my viewpoint..

To me the song reminds us that there are those who are less fortunate than us. Whether its that homeless man across town or the poor people living in 3rd world countries. For us, clothing, food or a warm place to sleep at night seems like nothing out of the ordinary. This song is telling us to remember how lucky we are and not to turn a blind eye on those who dont' get to live in "paradise."

I agree with what most are saying, but couldnt it also be the holy aspect of if you help someone in that situation you go to paradise, in other words heaven?

i agree with "sunflower_angel17" - its "Another Day In Paraise - for YOU & ME" - if you help me today, I will see a better and brighter tomorrow (paradise for me) - and you too will be rewarded by God for the good deed you have done for a less fortunate person like me (a day more for YOU in paradise, when the Day of Judgement comes!!)

We must help those in need - whoever they may be, irrespective of caste, creed, colour, sex & nationality. Because in God's eyes we are ONE.

yeah everyones pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one. how most people don't appreciate the basic things we have that others could only dream of. like some people are still on dial up internet connections. my heart goes out to them. stay strong.

Well I too appreciate the meaning behind this song. I also think its about the western society in general, and how we, compared to many others, live in a land of comfort and seeming "paradise". The song shows a poor helpless woman (who represents the poorer and struggling people in the world) crying out for help to a man (us westerners) who ignores her at first, but then considers her. But he finds it hard to help, because to truely help, he has to sacrifice something for another, to sacrifice absolute paradice and wealth, which is something beaurocrats of our western nations also struggle with.

I guess the meaning is clear, but what about the latest lines:
"You can tell from the lines on her face/You can see that she\'s been there/Probably been moved on from every place/\'Cos she didn\'t fit in there" ...

I guess it's about the fact that people being poor are always looked different and avoided ...
