Another dream that will never come true
Just to compliment your sorrow
Another life that I've taken from you
A gift to add on to your pain and suffering
Another truth you can never believe
Has crippled you completely
All the cries you're beginning to hear
Trapped in your mind, and the sound is deafening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way I pray

[Chorus]
Living just isn't hard enough
Burn me alive, inside
Living my life's not hard enough
Take everything away

Another nightmare about to come true
Will manifest tomorrow
Another love that I've taken from you
Lost in time, on the edge of suffering
Another taste of the evil I breed
Will level you completely
Bring to life everything that you fear
Live in the dark, and the world is threatening

Let me enlighten you
This is the way i pray

[Chorus]

Return to me
Leave me no one
Turn to me
Return to me
Cast aside

You've made me turn away

[Chorus]

General Comment:I think this song really describes how i feel about God in general. Religion in general pisses me off more than anything. Fuck God.

My Interpretation:I really disagree with everyone that this song is about turning away from God. I think it's about turning to God (even if not the Christian one) and it's clearly inspired from the story of Job specifically and the problem of suffering/evil in general. The singer is just begging God to take everything away from him, in the fashion of a person with a facetious victim complex, because he knows it's nothing compared to what some people have to endure everyday. David knows he's pretty well off, and yet he still suffers like the rest of us. When he's miserable, he realizes he's still more fortunate than many, and thus feels guilt for being upset.

Also, when David presumably requests God to burn him alive from the inside out, this is an obvious cry for spiritual redemption/forgiveness. At the end of the song, David begs for divine intervention (return to me, turn to me, cast aside my wrongdoings, leave me no one for I am guilty) and the line about turning away isn't about abandoning faith — it's about abandoning pettiness and working toward maintaining a teleological and grateful outlook.

General Comment:Wow. this a alot of comments for a great song. I am sure this may be posted since I could not take the time to read the 200+ comments, but David Draiman mentioned in one of his interviews that this song is a conversation between God and himself after the death of his grandfather.

General Comment:I always thought the first line of the chorus was him saying, ironically, "Heaven just isn't high enough." Obviously not.

Song Meaning:I used to think that the first person is just a super-powerful villain who causes the second person, the protagonist, continual agony, much like Freddy Krueger, Sephiroth or Voldemort. However, I have come to be convinced that the lyrics represent a confession of sin. The first person is capable of doing many wicked things and getting away with them, and probably has done so, but for some reason is not content; it wants justice done upon it for the wrong that it has done. It says, "My life is not hard enough; burn me alive inside/take everything away," because a total lack of impediment/opposition/retribution has most likely made this life of crime boring and too easy, so what this person wants is hardship. The first two verses tell us the evil things that this person is capable of, has done or plans to do, while the refrain is the petition for punishment. In the third verse as in the refrain (excepting the variant at the end), I believe that the second person is God; "You made me turn away," most likely indicates that God made the first person turn away from sin. The message is basically, "Lord, I have sinned; I have hurt others in many ways, and I have gotten away with it. Now, I demand to be punished for my wrongdoing. Henceforth, I shall turn away from sin and embrace you."

General Comment:@ xROCKSTARx yeah and what's interesting too, is that Job had talks with God in the same format this song is written in- where he's lost everything there is to lose, and he's demanding to know why. In the end though, he returns to God. This song's incredible, like every song they do...XD

General Comment:It' like people don't research anything before ignorantly posting stuff! Draiman said "it's a conversation between him and God" in an interview! He also states "it is a modern day depiction of job" (from the bible)! And if you have the common sense to look into anything the albums name is believe! Which draiman states in an interview or maybe on the M.O.L. dvd that the album believe was meant to say it doesn't matter what you believe in just believe( hence the different religious symbols all mixed together on the album cover)! But if you prefer to be ignorant and mis-informed and go about your lives stuck in the cloud of ignorance that surrounds you then by all means do so! I wouldn't believe what the writer of the song says it means either!

General Comment:man I love this song, still as good as when I first heard it! It's like he's saying to his god all sarcastically "Living my life's not hard enough..what, is that all you can do, that's all you can throw at me? Go ahead, take everything away" I'm not a believer, but that's how I hear it in my head:)
