There's a nail in the door
And there's glass on the lawn
Tacks on the floor
And the TV is on
And I always sleep with my guns when you're gone

There's a blade by the bed
And a phone in my hand
A dog on the floor
And some cash on the nightstand
When I'm all alone the dreaming stops
And I just can't stand

What should I do I'm just a little baby
What if the lights go out
And maybe and then the wind just starts to moan
Outside the door he followed me home

So goodnight moon
I want the sun
If it's not here soon
I might be done
No it won't be too soon 'til I say goodnight moon

There's a shark in the pool
And a witch in the tree
A crazy old neighbor and he's been watching me
And there's footsteps loud and strong coming down the hall
Something's under the bed
Now it's out in the hedge
There's a big black crow sitting on my window ledge
And I hear something scratching through the wall

What should I do I'm just a little baby
What if the lights go out
And maybe and then the wind just starts to moan
Outside the door he followed me home
So goodnight moon
I want the sun
If it's not here soon
I might be done
No it won't be too soon 'til I say goodnight moon

My Interpretation:Its a sucker play from a very dangerous lady...a woman serial killer lurin surrounded by all those dangerous things to trap some macho asshole who believes she needs protection...

"cash on the nightstand" as a lure
singing almost with glee 'he's followed me home"

My Interpretation:Just a train of thought from a paranoid mind.

General Comment:I definitely think that it's about a woman who isn't with her significant other (either for break up or they are just out) and she can't sleep without him and now all of these images start going through her head nthat she dosen't have her lover there to protect her.

General Comment:I was reading "Goodnight Moon" to my baby to get him to sleep and it made me think of this song... the song makes me think of a darker version of the book, especially with how she lists off things around her, and when she sings "I'm just a little baby".

General Comment:Great song. Sexy voice&sexy, sleepy atmosphere. I think that the girl is, kinda, scared, but, on the other hand, there's something funny (can't find the right word) in the elements such as the witch, or the thing that moves from under the bed to the hedge. Surreal&dreamlike.

General Comment:Honestly, I always thought she said "When I'm all alone the dreaming stops, and I just count sand." Which makes more sense... sounds like she's saying that, too.

General Comment:This may seem ignorent to the singer's original intentions, but because I first heard this off Kill Bill, I imagine in the beginning she is describing a scene where a fight has been "tacks on the floor and the tv is on" ect. And now she is waiting for the person she has killed's friends to come and kill her "Goodnight Moon". I think this song has many interpretations, this is just one that plays out in my head. I also agree with the black and white feel.

General Comment:she starts out be telling how she has done everything to feel safe, when alone.
the the choir: "What should I do I'm just a little baby". She has realised that she needs a man to protect her. So essential she speaks to the mans need and will to protect a vulnerable being .)
