My take on "Forever" is that the narrator simply didn't believe in true love at all. Basically, he thought people just “loved” each other because they wanted too. "I lived my life believing all love is blind," says to me he saw love as something that wasn’t really real, rather an abstract idea people wanted badly enough that they would blind themselves (to the truth) for. This line can be taken other ways, but it is at least consistent with my thesis. Also take the line "when you're strong you can stand on your own," it says to me the narrator believed nobody actually needed love, rather it was something people made up as a crutch so they wouldn't have to be strong. Only now does the narrator understand, because he's found the one, a love, a union so true that it's part of the Lord's ultimate design.
This song seems quite similar to what happened to me (possible bias? sure, but I still think my above analysis is correct). I wish my baby didn't live halfway around the world. Unrequited love sucks, but I still thinks its meant to be forever, so that will all work itself out in due time. God willing, I will definitely try to get this song played at my wedding :)
