Beth I hear you calling
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are playing
And we just can't find the sound

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

You say you feel so empty
That our house just ain't our home
I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone

Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do

Beth I know you're lonely
And I hope you'll be alright
Cause me and the boys will be playing all night

My Opinion:ok well... i first heard this song on glee... and puck was singing it about his unborn baby girl. to me that was beautiful. and i cry everytime i hear this song because it reminds me of my dad as i see him and my mum for 4 hours a week. he was 18 when i was born, he got into trouble and stuff and even though hes not always there... this song reminds me that he still loves me and he is my dad. I will always be daddysgirl. I love you Dad<3

General Comment:I hate Kiss and this song is no exception. It has a pretty melody, but that's it.

Basically says the band's more important to him than his relationship.

Sorry Beth, you're just gonna have to sit home alone for another few hours.. no... wait... make that all night.

My Interpretation:Before ya'll go after me about not having the "correct" interpretation (some of you say there is no deeper meaning, just emotion), I want to say this is how I felt when I first heard this song and it's my personal interpretation of the song.

The speaker of Beth is a soldier fighting in the war and talking to his wife back home. "I can't come home right now / Me and the boys are playin'" The "boys" being the other soldiers and "playin'" being the fighting against the enemy.

While this was not the intention of the song and some lyrics don't support this, I still feel this way after every listen. Anyone agree?

My Opinion:The song meaning is pretty obvious. She needs him to be with her more than anything, he needs to be with her, obligations/outside forces are keeping them apart.

The piano work in this song is beautiful. The acoustic live version is my favorite.

This song has very special meaning to me personally. It was 1984. I was never more in love than I was with my first love and she was never more in love than she was with me. She was my best friend in the world. Her mother didn't approve of us being together but we still would do anything to sneak, lie, beg, just to spend any time together at all. If we were found out she would get punished badly. We went through this for almost a year. Her and her mom's relationship got worse and worse. She would rebel more and more, her mom would punish her worse and worse. When she was grounded there was very little she could do so she would play the piano. I ordered the sheet music for this song for her birthday. It was because the song was about two people in love who needed to be together more than anything but it was beyond their power and they couldn't.

I gave it to her and she learned to play it. I have only heard her play it for me once 25 years ago. It's our song. We had to break up, her and her mom's relationship was falling apart and I was causing it, I was going away to college in about a month or two. We broke up but neither of us wanted that. Two years later we refound each other - we were still in love - still just as close of friends. She was going off to school too and we only had a short time together. We were about 800 miles away from each other but tried to stay in touch - still best friends. She accidentally got pregnant by the boy she was dating and she disapeared from my life for 20 years.

Five years ago she came back into my life we were still in love just as much as when we were young but we still couldn't be together. She still had the original sheet music I gave her. She has carried it back and forth from living over seas, from state to state, through multiple marriages, through a very challenging life. She says it is the only material possession she has from her youth and her most precious possession. She has played this song thousands of times in her life and it has always been about us and that time. 7 years after we broke up, she had a daughter - she named her daughter after this song and that time with me. I looked for her for 9 years after we broke up before I could really let her go - this song was always with me. In my life, I carried this song and the love for her with me every step of the way. This song means to me what my life could and should have been and all we both lost so long ago. The last 5 years we have been best friends - still completely in love but challenged with circumstances that wouldn't let us be together or what we really wanted to be.

8 months ago both of our lives took huge turns. She has choosen a path away from me - it looks like a permanent path. I haven't really spoken to her in 6 months except briefly. We have been in love for 25 years - apart from each other for 18 yet this one song has kept us bound together the entire time. She says she still loves me but wants to be where she is and knows I can't understand. I'm still completely in love with her and she is my best friend but I think I have really lost her for good this time. I'm writing this in hopes that someday she will come out here and find it. General Comment:I can't stand heavy rock, so I'm so glad they produced such a nice song in a different style.
If i see a girl called Beth, I'll definitely introduce this song to her. Unless she hates music, or I hate her.
    Btw the melody is amazing.

General Comment:It's pretty obvious, he's choosing his friends (specifically bandmates) over his lover.

For all you jackasses who hate KISS, you can KISS MY ASS! If you can't at least respect KISS you don't know jackshit about music. I can't make you like them, but you can't disrespect their impact on Hard Rock music.

Oh and for you people who say this song just isn't KISS, look at "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison...it wasn't what Poison was all about but it went #1 and don't lie you love that song. Just cuz the song is a ballad doesn't mean it's a song for pussies and panzees, you wanna be bad-asses need to get that through your thick skulls. Personally I love ballad music and this just adds to the collection. I'm a dude and I'm not afraid to say that I love ballads, and I love power rock music!

General Comment:I was named after this song by my mom. She said she wanted to name her daughter Beth when she first heard this song when she was younger. Then she juat happened to marry a guy whos mothers name was elizabeth and she was like "score double name points!" But this song is so cool I love being named after it...NOT I hate it, people always sing it to me....
