This is making me crazy
These black clouds following me
So I look for signs of light
But rarely I see them
I return to my shelter
And I crawl in a bottle
I'm losing my will for this
So over emotional

Black clouds
They rain down
But they can't kill the sun

Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing
Like ashes
To ashes
I always seem to fall down
I'm tired
Of running
It's time to face my demons
Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing

My emotions are storming
And tears fall just like rain
Pain strikes like lightning
Despair is becoming my friend

I return to my shelter
And I crawl in a bottle
I'm losing my will for this
So over emotional

Black clouds
They rain down
But they can't kill the sun

Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing
Like ashes
To ashes
I always seem to fall down
I'm tired
Of running
It's time to face my demons
Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing

Black clouds
They rain down
But they can't kill the sun

Inside
Still looking for signs of light
These black clouds keep following me
I return to my shelter
And I crawl in a bottle

Black clouds
They rain down
But they can't kill the sun

Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing
Like ashes
To ashes
I always seem to fall down
I'm pushing
Myself to
A point of self destruction
Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing
I'm tired
Of running
It's time to face my demons
Confession
Of depression
This life I'm second-guessing

Black clouds
They rain down
But they can't kill the son
Inside

    My Interpretation

As suggested by most the lyrics speak of depression and ways of "dealing" (or in the case of most points in this song, not dealing) with that.

The first verse is them looking for a silver lining (something to be happy about), a freedom from the "black clouds" (depression). However they retreat to where they feel safe (alcohol). Many people use alcohol to cope with depression (ironically it is depressant, however because abuse allows you to escape reality and not deal with real life problems many chose it).

The rest talks about how things continually try to bring him down (like falling rain from the sky), but he will own them (confession) and overcome them (can't kill the sun).

I actually like it in that lyrics aren't self defeating, that is the writer can see hope at the end of the tunnel, knows they need to use this to grow and not defeat them. A positive message within a song dealing with a very hard issue that most of us will contend with some time during our life time.

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
